Gunsite or Frontsite?

I'm planning to take a week between jobs, hopefully in October and attend the basic pistol class at one of the two schools. I am leaning toward Gunsite but would appreciate comments from folks that have been to either. Thanks in advance!

I actually bought a Front Sight Diamond membership (at steep discount) after my trip last year.

I've taken their 4 day handgun - it's a very good class, but they are heavily invested in Weaver technique. Then, so too is Gunsite, from my understanding. If you're exposed to Magpul, Weaver could be a little grating, but I'd recommend it anyway, as another tool in your box.

I went from roughly midfield to #2 at a local IDPA match after attending FS, even though I dropped the Weaver technique. Just pulling the trigger that many times under guidance and supervision is beneficial.

The legal lectures and "what happens after a shooting" discussion that come with the class are easily worth the cost, IMO.

Front Sight is offering a $69 Midweek 4-day handgun course right now, which you may be able to access on www.myfrontsight.com. If you can't access it, I'd be happy to help you out. You can also buy certificates on ebay for their 4 day handgun or rifle, valid on weekend classes, for around $120 (last I checked). FYI, they do charge something like $50 for a background check, and you need someone to attest that you're a good guy.

Another factor to consider: Las Vegas airfare and lodging is cheap.

Personally, I headed to Front Sight when I got the chance, but that's primarily due to cost. With one of their deals, the entire trip ended up costing less than the cost of a similar class at most other schools within range.

It's decent enough training, and the majority that you'll see about it is their 4 day handgun course, their bread-and-butter course that gets the thousands per year they like to brag about, which can get a person with no experience up to speed with fundamentals enough to draw from concealment and make hits in under 3 seconds (their goal is 2.5 seconds, but not everyone gets there the first time through). Graduating from this gets you access to their higher level courses (which you rarely see reviews on since a comparatively smaller number of people take them), but unless you get in on one of the cheap membership deals, I'd opt for somewhere else before paying the $2000 list price.
