I was up above Yampa last week looking for grouse. Walked seven hours and didn't see a one. The grass was still green and unusually tall for this time of year at 8000 - 9000 feet. Has anyone seen good populations of dusky (blue) grouse this year? Please share the general location?

I usually run into good populations West of the Colorado River up towards Fish Creek- WNW out of the Derby Creek Trading Post.

I've not been to that area. Have you seen any up there this year?

area 43 just outside of Carbondale. Get above the scrub oaks and just into the Aspen's.

Zigfried- I have not been up there this summer, but I have always seen a few and sometimes a bunch any time I'm in there. Again- you need to get into the aspen where the start to mix with the spruce and pine.

Went elk and deer hunting for 4 days and didn't see a single Grouse. We were up by Gore pass.

Strange year this year for some reason, Aspen trees haven't even changed color yet.

Good luck!

Ditto. I was up on Dunkley Pass and everything was green like Spring!

I was bow hunting last weekend above Green Mountain Reservoir and did not see one. I have seen a lot in years past. Everything was very green and seemed to be plenty of water.

I was there opening weekend and last weekend and there none to be seen. I did hear one fly up to roost near dark, but that was it. There were a bunch last year though.

It sounds like several of us hunt the same unit.
