That's a terrible area too. Figgered a copper would know better than to live around there, much less leave firearms in his vehicle overnight.

I can see this turning out to be quite a fun little adventure for local LEOs... I'm bringing another mag with me in my car in addition to the 2 I already have.

i guess he figured that being a cop makes you exempt from theft . hope he gets in trouble for negligence and they catch the thief

I love how accurate they are with the AR15 Rifle and magazine description. I wounder if it is used in a crime if it will be redefined as an assault rifle with a clip.

I don't have a take home car, but my wife does.

I wouldn't leave my police vehicle in an apartment lot around there. Or anywhere.

I make enough to have a garage, and so does that Boulder Dep! He was probably seeing his chip. :D

This, boys and girls, is why you remove your weapon from your vehicle when it is unattended. Any bets that they devote a lot more resources to this case than if a private citizen had reported the same crime? Car theft = meh, firearm theft = meh+ about 1, combined it would usually warrant a junior detective for about an hour to make a few phone calls.

Guys, don't worry. The BATF will find the gun, they were just borrowing it. It wasn't "stolen".... hehehe

Or, he was recently divorced and she got the house and child care/maintenance payments, so the apartment is all he can afford.

The rifle was probably his, so its his loss, not the agencies.

I guess I was a bigger dick in my divorce. [Coffee]

I carry my own guns too. All that more reason to be careful. If it was an unmarked Taurus, it probably didn't have a rifle rack. Which means it was in a case in the trunk more than likely.

Hopefully, some big mouth car trespasser slips up before one of us encounters it on the street.

Please let me be the one to encounter it on the street! I'd love to record that phone call:
"Boulder county sheriff's office."
Yeah I found your missing Taurus... looks like the guy who did it needs an ambulance too.

Interesting ... you're probably right.

The tools of our masters are to be described with reverence and accuracy whereas us proles just be packin' gats with clips. [Tooth]

I have an unmarked vehicle and the shotgun belongs to the state and the AR belongs to me that is in it. I don't have a garage to put the vehicle in; my wife insists she park in it. So my G-ride is on the driveway. I guess I'm also subject to all the ridicule the officer is getting from everyone here.

I can only imagine what you would do with your ccw piece against a criminal with a stolen carbine and likely nothing to lose.

I'm not ridiculing you or anyone. Just different. If I had a take home, I would be too worried about losing a $2,000 rifle to leave it in there. My wife has a take home unmarked car and it gets parked outside too. She doesn't keep guns in it though.

We have waves of trespasses here every two months or so.

They would already be gone if she did.

I have an extra two gun case you can have if you want.

That depends on how hard he trains. If it is with in 500 yards then he could do well if he trains hard.

If your car gets jacked, yeah, probably [LOL]

[Beer] Meanin' no disrespect...

I would (and do) remove my weapons from my vehicles at night, regardless of if they are parked in the garage or in the street. Too much risk for my taste not to.

I think the question becomes "Did I Do everything to prevent my weapon from being stolen and used in a crime?" If you can say yes, you are good.

Thanks for the offer! Both are in gun cases already. The way I figure it, the bad guy would go after my neighbor who parks his marked State Patrol vehicle in the driveway over my unmarked Trailblazer in my driveway.

Like that officer, I keep my ballistic vest, ballistic gear, a portable radio, a vehicle mounted radio, two bags of work supplies, my work "bug out" gear, two firearms in cases with extra ammo, a ram, a houligan, a case of water, some yummy MRE's and a coffee pot with coffee supplies in the back of my Trailblazer. I'm NOT going to hump all that in and out everyday, so no, I guess I'm not doing everything in my power to ensure it isn't stolen.

I really wasn't trying to bash anyone.

You seriously have a working/connected coffeepot with supplies in the back?
what are you, a portable Starbucks franchise? [ROFL1]

and what colors is your trailblazer , [ROFL1] [ROFL1] , just kidding .
it would seem to me that the gear is one thing but the guns another , whats the harm in totting them in and out each day . i leave a ton of stuff in the truck all the time but never guns . i just dont want to be responsible for guns in the hands of heathens.

Been around a while and can smell the chippy involvement in this one. Kind of reminds me of a Denver capper a few years back....Same kind of deal, but found out later that she had given the keys to her hoodrat boyfriend, while she was playing nice with the officer.....LOL

Ha ha! No, it is a 12volt 4 cup coffee pot. I sometimes work in areas where the closest 7-Eleven is 20-30 miles away. You never know when you need a cup of joe. I keep all those coffee supplies you get in the hotels (cups, lids, coffee, stir sticks, sugar packets, etc) in a big ziplock and use them when I am out dealing with a scene in the middle of nowhere.

Are you the one man forced entry team?

Ha, no dude! It's my issued equipment and you never know when you need to pop a door for a search warrant. Getting too old to do it with my shoulder and my knees are getting too bad to kick it in anymore.

Alex, my vehicle is....white, yeah, that's it, that's the ticket! Truly, because it is a pain in the ass to do everyday.

I contacted via email Kathy Walker at KOA for d3scribing it as an assault rifle. I sent her the Wikipedia article that states that AR-15s are not assault rifles but M-16s and M-4s are. It describes semi-auto versus full auto in the article.

She wrote back and cc'd various clear channel folks that they would correct the problem. In a later newscast they changed the wording to AR-15 rifle instead of assault rifle.

I know what you mean Alex! I open carry to and from my car everyday (because I dress like I'm going to church for work- golf shirt and slacks- and can't CC while shirt is tucked in), and sometimes I'll be walking with my rifle case and my ammo can if I'm going to the range. One neighbor just assumed I was a cop, you can imagine their surprise when I told them I'm and insurance agent. But whatever, one of our neighbors is CSP.
