Operation Mountain Guardian is a terrorism-based, full-scale emergency exercise scheduled to take place in numerous locations in the Denver metro area on Friday, September 23, 2011. The exercise will involve first responders from 81 different agencies**, will be conducted at ten separate locations and will include loud noises, simulated weapons, smoke, emergency vehicles and other equipment that will be audible and visible throughout the day.

DENVER (CBS4) – President Barack Obama will visit the Denver area as part of a series of stops in Western states to talk about the economy.
Obama will also be visiting several cities on the West Coast as part of his tour, according the White House.
So far it’s not clear where exactly the president will visit and what time of day he’ll be here.

The only problem with these is they always end up being to many chiefs and not enough indians. Being lower on the ladder sucks and you don't accomplish much.

Google "Operation Northern Vigilance" and you'll see why so many believe the 9-11 attacks were not just the work of goat herders living in Afghan caves. For the London attacks Google "7-7-05 exercises ". Set some time aside, because you'll be reading for quite a while. Sooner is probably better than later, lest they fall down the memory hole...

Don't panic Friday if your surroundings erupt with
sounds and images more familiar in Kandahar
than Denver.

More than 100 emergency agencies will take
part in a terrorism response exercise that
promises to attract attention throughout the
metro area.

Simulated explosions will boom, smoke will rise,
and emergency vehicles will blare warning
signals as fake weapons are drawn.

The exercise, Operation Mountain Guardian Operation OMG [ROFL1], is
scheduled to begin at 5 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.
m. and will involve 14 separate locations.
The exercise is an opportunity for regional first
responders to react to a mock terrorist-driven
catastrophe.

"We want to make sure that people will know
this is what is happening on Friday," said Denver D
istrict Attorney spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough.
Most of the action will break out at five locations
over the course of the day: Park Meadows Mall;
Smedley Elementary School; Union Station;
Community College of Aurora; and Denver
International Airport.

Sky Ridge Medical Center; Denver Health Medical
Center and University of Colorado Hospital, will
test their ability to handle a surge of injured
patients during the drill. And Sports Authority
Field at Mile High Stadium "may have a small role
in helping to process the (pretend) mass
casualties," Kimbrough said.

Catholic Charities will serve as an evacuation
center where children from Smedley will be
taken.

This is false... the only training exercise going on that day was a USAF routine training mission out of the NE US. These go on almost weekly, especially back then. There is FAA/USAF audio where the FAA agent was informing an AF Officer about the hijackings and he asked "Is this exercise or real world?"
There is no truth to any form of anti-terror exercises going on during 9/11/01.

The last one I was involved in several years ago wasn't. We knew who was involved and the approximate area it would occur in. It was pretty fun in the beginning, but then became a admin exercise without much to do.

Ours began with a two car accident (they had two vehicles upside down on the roadway) and one was leaking a gasious substance (the reenactors were lying on the ground around the vehicle and a smoke bomb was being used to generate smoke) and the exercise developed from there to evacuation of buildings downwind (all government buildings) to a possible active shooter. It was well thought out to include law enforcement, fire, hazmat, public works, special ops, etc.

I have been listening to the amateur radio traffic on two frequencies. One is for Douglas County and the other is for the Salvation Army. The Douglas County traffic was interesting regarding missing children and how many simulated injuries. They kept repeating that this is exercise traffic.
