It's just business for the Deputies... They get this shit end of the work. Interesting that so many people/businesses decided to blow off a tax that they were mandated to pay. There must be quite the back story to this and they all thought they'd never have to pay.

Sounds more like Chicago Mafioso tactics.
"You didn't pay your "tribute" so we's a gonna leave a you a little reminder."
Not discounting the fact that the business's did not pay the tax.
I guess summon's and court imposed fines are just an "inconvenience" and take too long.
Theft pure and simple.

Hi...my name is elhuero and I don't post anything but anti-police threads. Thanks for making the forum a better place. :)
Oh and my inlaws with held their taxes as well. They owed the Gov't $900,000. Guess what...the Govt came to their house every week and followed them around town till they paid it. Bad shit happens when you dont pay your taxes. Dont believe me? try it.
joe
Uhhh... How did this turn into anti-cop? I'm prettty sure it's an article about strong arm tactics being used to collect taxes.. Oh wait.. the deputies are following the law. BAD DEPUTIES BAD! BAD! BAD! Would it matter if it were Blackwater or whatever the name of that place is now? THE COLLECTION AGENCY IS THE ONE USING STRONG ARM TACTICS HERE!
Boosted.. put your dick away and stop fap'n at the keyboard.
WTF is a stormwater tax? I'm confused if it was abolished or just made into property taxes.. a few years back? but the treasurer hasn't made it part of property tax yet?
I'm fuckin lost..

Where can I get a job like this? I would love to come home at night and brag to the family how I was able to shake-down a few businesses today. And, if anyone of them objected I could just say, "well the chief told me too, I was just following orders, and it is not stealing because I have a badge."
(sarcasm)
I would hope that most of the cops out there trying to serve and protect would tell their "superiors" to go pound sand if instructed to do something like this.

Maybe we need to change the tax system.

Maybe we need to change the tax system.
We did here in Colorado ... its called TABOR. And under TABOR the Stormwater "fee" was basically an illegal tax, so many folk refused to pay it. However instead of having the court overturn this illegal tax (even though it was called a fee) we got rid of it by passing a ballot initiative. Thus it was never actually DECLARED an illegal tax. So that means if you didn't pay it you still have to pay up.
That said, sending in armed agents of the state to take the money by force is government run amok and wrong and the individual officers that allowed themselves to be used in this fashion are no less guilty than the government officials that ordered them in.
As for the whole "anti-cop" thing ... if we aren't allowed to discuss the misdeeds of some police officers (or in this case the misuse of police officers by the state) without being accused of "cop bashing" than we're going to end up with a society where the law abiding no longer trust the police ... which in the end will suck WORSE for the good police.
The problem we have now (and it tends to rear its head in this forum) is that there are too many in law enforcement who are unwilling to admit that there are large numbers of their "brothers and sisters in blue" that are gladly becoming jack booted thugs for a runaway state and have no respect for the rights of the people. Thing is I know that many of you LEOs here abhor this kind of action ... it is incumbent on you to stand against it from the inside if you want to see our republic survive and stop defending your corrupt fellow officers. You need to be Americans FIRST and police officers second.
Its also incumbent upon each of us outside of law enforcement to lend support to those officers and deputies that DO stand up against the tide of jack booted thuggary. If you think it can get bad for those of us "civilians" that speak out against the excesses of the police, imagine how tough its going to be on those that stand against the JBTs while in uniform ... they aren't going to do it if we on the outside make them stand on their own.

ut it feels soooo good. :(
also. Take a look at all of elhuero's posts and you will see a vast majority of them are anti police. when someone has such a strong view point about something I am sure posting an article about police taking money from businesses was done soley for information purposes and not to make a point.

Can you find a single post by Elhuero "bashing" a cop that didn't deserve it? I doubt it.

In the past he has posted 10 new threads about police. 8 of those being negative. If I signed up and posted 8 out of 10 threads about hating guns and they are the root of all evil I would probably be banned or you would naturally feel that I would be against guns. Correct? All I am saying is there are articles out there of officers doing good work and yet he seems to go out of his way to post articles about officers doing bad.
How about a post of these....?

He has a history of posting negative articles and making negative posts. There are a lot of great officers out there and he never posts any of their stories.
end and I am pulling the eject button.

I support Elhuero
you didn't post threads with those good stories either. does that make you as much of an anti cop dick as I supposedly am?
does this mean that I can bash cops as long as I post a link to a "good" cop story to balance it out?
do you have any opinion of or apology for the link that I did post? or did you ignore it outright because I posted it I'm "anti cop"
you see, I get where you're coming from. believe me, I've tried to show that I don't hate cops, but it doesn't work.
once pro cop folks (or anyone who has they're mind REALLY made up about something... like say, oh.. child molesters and the death penalty) have made up their mind about you there is no way to undo it.
and posting pro police stories pisses them off even more, because they feel like instead of showing gratitude or thanks I'm simply mocking them.
the fact that you're throwing a tantrum instead of engaging in dialog shows the mindset you have.
so it's a good thing you ejected, because you never had your pilot's license to start with.

Here is a report on oaths and ethics of police officers by Richard DeShon
http://www.emich.edu/cerns/downloads/papers/PoliceStaff/Unsorted/OATH%20&%20ETHICS.pdf
Some things in the report that worry me . . .
80% claimed they have read the constitution . . . yet only 35% said they knew of a law that is unconstitutional
72% said they would enforce a law that was obviously in conflict with the american constitution
88% said they would enforce an unconstitutional law if ordered by a supervisor
65% trust the legislature to pass constitutional laws . . . but 78% think the legislature would pass a law to serve his/her own special interest in conflict with the american constitution

First...You are not a dick. I never considered you a dick and don't consider you one now.
As for the article posted I personally try not to trust 100% of what the news says. I have had first hand dealings with the media and they have never once told the story the way it happened. I read the story and took it for what it was. One side of the event. Do I think it was right to go in and take money from the store? Nope. There are better ways to conduct yourself.
Posting stories pro police would not lead me to believe you are mocking police. Some might feel that way, but I wouldn't.
Throwing a tantrum? Says who? I am making an observation about your posts and voicing what I notice. That is all. I am not mad at you, or anyone on this board. As I said in the beginning I have no issues with you and I would have no problem buying you a beer, I have just noticed a large portion of your posts are anti-cop.

To answer some questions, the "Stormwater" fee metioned was $$$ collected to maintain the water (runoff) drains throughout Colo Spgs. There was a lot of controversy about how it was collected, but I don't think there was ever doubt that it was needed. It's my understanding Colo Spgs is the only major city in CO to not have stormwater included in utility bills, propert taxes and what not. I don't remember how much money mine was, but $60 a qtr rings a bell.
This is a simple case of the city blowing off the due process of law required. They should file a lawsuit against an individual or a business in order to collect legal taxes & fees.
That's what city/county attorneys are for.

City making it a part of the tax maybe? This reminds me of those 1-900 telephone billing scams of the 1980's. Threatening people with guns and badges is sure way for a sheriff to not be re-elected and judges to be removed from the bench. City Council getting alot of flak from its' constituents will cause them to rethink their collection process. It sounds unconstitutional to me and maybe a Federal Court should intervene. Imagine receiving a Federal bill for a "Citizen Fee"....if you did not pay, the FBI would come with guns and badges and empty your wallet. This is .gov thuggery at its finest...

seems to me like if they were acting properly under the law, a halt would not have been necessary.

I agree that they could have gone about it in a different way. Absolutely nothing about this seems legal. I think the city is now going to be on the hook for the money taken plus a few million. :(
