Well, I'm in the damned if I do, damned if I don't seat now. (Not that I haven't been in it for the last year and a half anyway.) I had the conversation with Roger about that place quite awhile ago. He didn't like it much either. But, we both agreed that it did bring people to the site. Which, of course we both wanted.

Everything was fine in there until about 2008, then it all went south. I couldn't even get volunteers to help mod the place. (Finally getting a few.) But, I was fed up with it. Once again, I requested of Roger to just toss it. Again, He talked me out of it.

I found, the suck... I mean theginsue *cough,cough*, and threw him to the wolves. That's when we started up with the reevaluation of the rules for the place. And yes, I wish I had been smart enough in the beginning to have most of then in place when we first started. But, I wasn't, so I paid the price.

Yes, I would like to see everyone use the place. But, I do realize that there are the ones that are here just to buy and sell. (That became real evident when the posts in the trading post were made not to count.) I have no problem with that. Too each his own.

heres my thought, not a bitch or complaint, just a thought. people as you have mentioned come here just to buy/sell, and there are also some who are here for the community and fellowship. My thought is this, I came coming to buy an ar, yes this is well known. Would i want to then become involved in this community and fellowship? yes, would everyone? probably not. But it would be better in my case, not speaking for everyone, to be able to purchase it. Then go through other posts in ways to set it up if i needed the help, and then also to find places to shoot or people to shoot with.

I will start with a disclaimer that I'm not trying to boost my post count [Weight]. This thread seems to have some similarities to another I lent in one of my "few and far between" posts. But I'll try to not so quickly summarize and re-word slightly so as not to bore...

1. The rules are what they are. If I disagree, the thing that makes the most sense is to try to tactfully present my point, reasons why I believe they should change, and offer a solution (or maybe more).

2. I like the option of the trading post and if I decide to sell something there (which will probably be rare, if ever), it is kind of nice to see something on which I can spend my limited discretionary income [Beer]. If I decide to sell something, I'll make the decision to conform to the existing rules, post elsewhere, or refer back to point #1 above. As I said in a previous post in another thread, don't hate me because I don't post much (I'm much better "live").

3. In a forum such as this, my guess is it will be an unintended consequence that there will always be a few who want to sign up, post a few things to be able to sell something, and ride off into the sunset. Sad, but true. I guess it just comes down to whether or not the benefits of having it outweigh the few bad apples.

The new rules would make a LOT of sense if you were having to clean up the messes by folks who don't meet the 15 post requirement or listen to the complaints from other members about the messes caused by those folks.

It's simple, the bar is set but it's set nice and low so it's easily attainable. The 15 post requirement is supposed to help folks learn enough about the site and what is expected before they go into the Trading Post and start making a fool of themselves and work for the mod's.

I have to sympathize with the poor mods. They work here for free (I assume) trying to maintain some degree of law and order. They typically get little to no respect for doing a very good job of making this a great little community to visit. I have bailed out of many other on-line forums for the simple fact that they are overrun with people who seem to have nothing better to do than troll the site trying to stir up trouble. Although we have a few loose cannons here from time to time, overall everyone seems to get along pretty well. As far as the classified section goes, it is one of the many thing I love about this site. They provide a forum for us Coloradans to exercise our right to buy and sell firearms and firearm related stuff openly and freely in accordance with the law.

Personally, I find post count to be about as useful as asking a liberal about reloading recipes but it is what it is. Anyone except for the truly ignorant know that post count isn't any indication of knowledge and intelligence. What it is however is an indication of experience in the "neighborhood" and a certain indication of a perceived level of trust.

Someone with 500 posts is going to understand what is allowable behavior and what isn't (cursing, off-color jokes, etc) than the newbie. As the post count increases, so does the experience and their ability to behave "properly" in the new club.

With regards to the Sale Forums, who's more likely to screw you, the guy with 3 posts or the guy with 1200 posts? Even as a newbie myself, I understand that someone isn't going to risk an extensive reputation on this sight (or most others) just to screw me out of a couple hundred bucks. Case in point, on another sight, I had no problems shipping out parts to a guy before getting paid because he was well regarded on the site. Somewhat risky sure, but there's an inherent risk in all online deals. It's the nature of the beast.

At the end of the day, it's their board and their rules. Besides, 15 posts is nothing and if you find a deal that is too good to wait, there's nothing to say that you can't PM the seller. Seems to me like it's nothing to get worked up about.

Well, having the personal experience of being screwed out of my time and efforts twice by new mwmbers with no post count, I like the new rule. Actually it is pretty leniant if you ask me. I was a member of a forum that had MUCH worse policy for posting in classifieds. Had to have 50 RELEVANT posts on the board, general discussion/chit chat didn't count towards post count at all. Be happy the rule is so easy here.

I also agree with the "pay to play" business model. I would shell out $20/year for a premium membership. I have on other forums that I am active on. I'm surprised it hasn't come up here for a way to help keep the lights on ya know.

Funny Pictures Thread , the three for sale sections and the 7.62 x 39 club. Unless something totally jumps out at me, but honestly I don't contribute to alot of the topics here because either my ideas and opinions would just piss people off or get me in trouble....OR...they have to do with stuff I have nothing to do with ... i.e. AR's.
