Hi folks, I am all over the place. Used to carry a SUBcompact xd 40 but it dug into me like an Alabama tick so went to a Sig 232 but wasn't for me. Now I got a LCP and just hate the 380 all together. I wanted to get something else and have been thinking of the Kahr PM9 or 40 but read a lot of bad reviews. Anyone use either of these or know a good single stack they recommend? I just want something comfy I can stow that will be reliable.

Thanks

I own 3 Kahr's in .40 and I'm pretty happy with them. The trigger pull is a bit heavy and long, but with practice, you get used to it. I am selling one of mine, the CW40, if you are interested. I have it at a guns store right now on consignment.

Kel-Tec PF9? Great guns: less than 1/2 the price of a Kahr, smaller than a Kahr, lighter than a Kahr.

Depends on what concealment u want....pocket, hip, ankle, etc. I carry a 1911 90% of the time or a j frame the other 10%. I may go to an M&P compact in .40 as well...but i can usually carry strong side hip. As to Kahr, i have a cw9 that my ex carried...its a fantastic gun, and wouldn't hesitate buying another in 9, 40 or 45, but i'm a S&W guy...lol...if you can try one out first. Like Oneguy said trigger is long and can be challenging, but they r reliable and pretty darn accurate. Also, i feel ya 100% on the .380 issue...not my cup of tea either

I also used to have a Kahr CW9, and loved it. I'm not a very big guy (5'4", 180 lbs), but I wore it IWB and it vanished. No problems with reliability. Trigger was a bit heavy for my taste, but I had no trouble running it.

Thanks guys thats just the feedback I was looking for. Yeah I like to carry strong side IWB so the slim fit is what I am looking for. Going to the trading post shopping![Beer]

Kahr's carry better than most anything out there but that's about the only thing I'd get excited about. The trigger isn't any better than a kel-tec or lcp and the only thing it brings to the table over either of the two, is slightly better looks, better sights, 100%+ price tag hike, and a mfg recommended break in period before it'll act right. If you're dead set on one, buy used.

My advice it this....

- when you get it strip it and lube it up. Kahrs like to run wet, very wet. Do a lot of dry fire practice and working the slide. Before I ever fired a live round I did probably 250 dry fires and probably 500 slide movements. The gun now has about 600 rounds and have been flawless.

Personally, I kind of like them and have a few in the stable. I tend to not shoot the standard bar-dot sights as well as the three dot nights, but working on that. I agree the PM series is priced a little up there unless buying used. If you like the PM9 and like something slightly smaller and don't completely hate .380, I find the P380 is also not a bad option (at least not for me). I find them comfortable to carry but I also ended putting a Handall Jr. sleeve on each of them to make them more comfortable for me. Sent PM with a more long-winded version. [Tooth]

I had a Kahr PM9, took a little getting used to, long trigger pull compared to most and the glock I usually shoot. Concealment it was great, but like any new pistol it takes a little getting used to. Sold it, then just bought another PM9 today (guessed I missed it). Never had any issues with reliability, most issues are user errors. Good luck!

I posted this in another Kahr thread a few months back. Yes, they say not to consider it reliable until you've put 200 rounds through it. But I fired 200 rounds right after buying mine just to get acquainted with it, and it didn't miss a beat. And I did buy my CW9 new.

And to the OP: FWIW, I had a Galco USA IWB holster for mine, and as I said, it vanished, especially in appendix carry. Not a cheap holster, but a damn good one, IMHO.

I've owned two Kahr MKs over the years (a 9 and a 40) excellent pieces ... most of the complaints about Kahrs are about the plastic ones.

Thanks for the post buddy. Got your pm really appreciate the feed back. Also interested in your chopping block if we can workout a deal[Beer].

Sounds like a whole lot of people are loving this Kahr, not sure what took me so long. Yeah, I had read a few reviews on the trigger pull taking some getting used to. Also, having failure to fire with them when brand new being an issue which worried me. I like to hear from owners more then reviews online though so it makes a big difference to hear everyone having them be reliable.

Thanks

I too have heard that but I don't get it ... it basically has the same trigger as a tuned J Frame.

I've never owned/shot a kahr but if slim is what you want I'd look at 1911s not sure if anyone makes an officer model in 9mm.

If you could bring yourself to reconsider a .380 check out the sig 238 I had to send mine back to sig after I got it but since it came back I love it, it's tiny, slim, the recoil is nothing and you get 7+1 w/ the extended mags. I can pocket or IWB it no problem

Zundfolge is correct, pretty good comparison. I have two J frames (442, 642), the kar pm9 is a bit crisper, not bad overtravel or creep, just a long dao pull...

I have a P45 I picked up used (for a killer trade) which has been dead-nuts reliable and wickedly accurate. The trigger isn't particularly heavy, it's just long -- it's a true double-action gun -- but super-smooth and very clean at the break.

Concealment is effortless, regardless of whether it's IWB or in a pancake holster -- thin (especially for a .45), light, and it just plain fits. I can make it disappear under a t-shirt, which is a challenge with my full-size guns.

The subcompact Kahrs I've shot have been weird. The KM I fired in .40 was downright tough to keep hold of (opposite of my experience with the polymer Kahrs) while the super-tiny 9s in the short frame just wanted to buck and jump. Extended mags or "P" frames are an absolute dream by comparison.

I've read about peoples' negative experiences and I'm completely at a loss to explain them. I've never had a single problem with mine that wasn't ammunition-related and in about 1,000 rounds have had maybe 3 or 4 malfunctions in total. 99.6% reliable is reliable in my book.

My only hangup... magazine capacity. I get 6 in the gun and 6 on my belt. No problem for "walking around" or "hey homey, that's my briefcase" but for other situations where you may want more than a six-shooter on your hip (teaching firearms classes, working security, or at home) it's a bit shy... but that's where the M&P 45 comes in handy

I think the Walther PPS in .40 is an excellent IWB setup, and I'm not just saying that because I have one for sale in the Trading Post. They are thin and are a lot of firepower. if you are looking at a 9mm, I might suggest checking out the Diamondback DB9. I thought about that one long and hard before I ended up with an LCP

Thanks guys. I actually got the Kahr CW 40 and love it. Nice and slim. Really comfortable. Use a Don Hume IWB, exactly what I was looking for. Hardly notice I have it on most the time it's so comfortable.

I just sold my karh to get a Smith and wesson M&P Shield - .40. best choice I have ever made. If you can get your hands on one, try it out. You'll love it.

I love the CW9 - shot one as a rental a few times. Trigger was very smooth and long, but I was very accurate with it. Underrated gun. However, I just bought an M&P Shield last month, and love it. More shootable for me than any of the other thin 9mms. I like the trigger better than the PPS, CW9, or LC9.

I am looking at a PM45, however I find it hard to justify the cost for what it is. On the other hand every other compact .45 is to thick or to heavy for shorts and T shirt carry IMO especially if you are not a big guy.
