View Full Version : Computer Antivirus Software
I purchased a new Computer not to long ago, and I was wondering what the best protection would be for it. I usually use the free AVG but I do not know how good that really is, and this one was not cheap so I would like to get good antivirus software. Thanks for your input.

AVG Free is fine as long as you aren't surfing eastern European free porn and the like.

More and more antivirus is getting to be a joke. I probably run into 10 executables a day that are caught by ~2 vendors and I'm not even looking hard.
clam and avast were decent
haven't shopped around in a while

Stick with AVG if you can. Works well and cheap. Don't use Norton360 or McRapee.
Trend micro is pretty good too.
I'd stick with the free AVG, what I use and I'm in the business.

Still using Avast on all my computers, out of a combination of laze and cheapness. Don't know how great it is, but it appears to be working so far.
Thanks Guys I am MARRIED I dont get to look at porn. I mainly just use it for surfing the web and my wife uses it for facebook, she is the one I am worried about she likes to research alot of stuff. Mostly useless info but it makes her happy and you guys know when the wife is not happy neither are we. I caught a virus one time just looking for a fuel pump relay location, I bought a manual after words.

ETA AVG and malwarebytes keeps me happy
I use Avast and malwarebytes. Really like them both.
Comcast gives you free Norton Suite if you're a subscriber. I think you get 6 licenses...
The only 100% effective solution.

Avast works for me.

+1 on the malwarebytes. I recommend ccleaner. It comes in handy when your uninstall program gets corrupted or the file you want to delete doesn't show up.

I am a Techie and going to school for IT now and have years of experiance workign on computers. I trust Microsoft Security Essesials, It is free and from microsoft, the only reason they dont put it on the computers from factory is that they would be sued for monopolistic behaviour. it is great software.

Um, yeah, not to start anything, but I've installed this on computers for people and I might as well just put some viruses on the system and started over rebuilding it for them. Stuff doesn't work, I'd agree.
