I picked up my SKS from KevDen on Saturday and took it the range on Sunday. I've never fired a 7.62 before, in fact, I barely have shot 20 rounds of .223. I'm a life long handgun shooter, yes, a Glock. Here are my first 40 rounds at 50' standing, no rest, open sights. I'm really digging this rifle. Now I have to find a cheap 1000 rounds of 7.62. What should I be looking to pay for 7.62? I purchased 20 rounds for $6 at Front Range Gun Club.

unless a local vendor can match it. i don't begrudge a store front for making money and i don't mind paying more for an in stock item.

Do you think the part about the primer being corrosive is a typo and should read non-corrosive?

Beautiful 1980-90's Surplus Yugoslavian 7.62x39 ammunition. This is the best shooting 7.62x39 ammunition available. Features a 123grn lead core copper jacketed bullet, brass case, and berdan corrosive primer. Packed 15rds in a box, and 1,260rds (84 boxes) sealed in metal tin inside of a hinged latched wooden case.

i'm pretty sure they mean corrosive. A lot of the older stuff had corrosive primers. I saw a couple of guys selling 7.62x39 at Tanner once. I asked them if it was corrosive. Their response was "what's it matter. When you're done shooting, spray some windex down the barrel, dry it with patches and clean it as normal." I don't know if it's a simple as using an ammonia based cleaned to nutralize the corrosiveness, but the bottom line is propperly clean your rifle after each use and you should be fine.

On that note. where can I get a decent SKS-M Manual?

ammonia nuetralizes the corosize salts from the primer that unchecked cause rusting and pitting

Jeez Jim... shameless plug.

Try Amazon if you want a physical one, or go on Google and search for a .pdf format SKS manual to print out. I have a TM for the M16/M4 family I got from the army, it's a print off in a 3-ring binder, but it works the same as an actual booklet.

Thanks I'll check online. Just wondering if there is an SKS armorer who might give me 15 minutes of training on the take down procedure, anybody come to mind?

You may do better with the PDF. I bought a cheap manual online and the print was so lousy that I could barely read it. It is a really simple breakdown. Once I did it, I wondered why I even bought the manual.
