I have been toying with the idea of a 22 Long rifle upper for plinking/practice. Build a dedicated upper or use a conversion kit? Any input would be appreciated. Already have an m-4gery, 16" middy, 20" NM, 24" varmint and 20" A2.

build it. this way all you do is a few pins and a different caliber.

I have a CMMG "Sierra" .22LR upper that I'm quite pleased with. It now has over 800 rounds with only a few stovepipes (Fed. bulk pack). With CCI Minimag there have been no problems. Accuracy is very good. WB

Thanks for the replies. Looks like Brownells will be getting more of my cash. WBAR thanks for the insight with your upper and its accuracy.

I've got a suppressed 6.5" barrel .22 upper currently using Spike's take on a Ciener kit.
I've had two Cieners and this Spikes. They've all worked alright with tuning. Usually carefully trimming the recoil spring. The biggest thing I've done to make it work reliably is to say goodbye to bulk pack .22, which just isn't consistent enough for good operation.

Johnnyego, that thing is beautiful. A 22 AR would be great to teach my lil girls how to shoot and expose them to daddies passion. :) Beats the hell out of the single shot Marlin I learned on-which I still have btw

I have a Spikes ST22 with the Lothar Walther barrel, it has been great and runs best on the cheap Federal bulk pack ammo.

I have a Nordic and it runs great with all flavors of ammo, from Federal bulk pack to Eley Subsonic hunting. 1 inch groups off sandbags at 50 yards are the norm.

Go with a dedicated upper. Conversion bolts work but they'll leave your rifle filthy and accuracy won't be the greatest. I have a Spikes st22 and love it but Spikes no longer sells .22 cal AR stuff. CMMG makes a great upper and their bolt hold open adapter will make all your controls work like a real AR.
