View Full Version : light mount to go on a rail?
OK, I'm not very familiar with "rail accessories" and what's out there. But I have an M1 Carbine set up just like this one, and would like to mount a flashlight holder/clamp thingie on the rail too. It would need to hang off the left side, so I could turn it on and off. Anybody know of such a thing? And where to get one? Bowers?

CAA makes a good one (UFH) that is adjustable through 5 positions. About $26. I like it better than the Daniels Defense mount I bought first.

Available locally? Maybe Bowers?

I would check Gear Sector.
They make damn fine light mounts

Gear Sector, Danger Close Consulting and Larue Tactical all make good light mounts with various offsets.
Bowers has the Viking Tactics light mounts.

I need small and simple, nothing high-tech and tactical. This is just a carbine that I keep under the bed, and space on the rail is very limited. Only one rail too, this isn't an M4 or AR15. The Viking Tactics looks promising, I'll just drag the M1 into Bowers and see what they have.

I have a couple of the VTAC mounts. They are HUGE.
I had it mounted for ten minutes before I took it off.
It now holds an Autozone flashlight on my sons airsoft.
They are plastic too

If real estate is an issue I'd stick with the Danger Close mount or the Gear Sector mount.
This is the Danger Close mount holding a Surefire E2D on my rifle. It takes up about half the space of the Larue or Vtac mounts.

while somewhat shy regarding UTG items on some firearms, i looked at this one today over at bear arms in windsor. very impressed with not only the lumen output but overall mfg. the grip is one of the more comfortable ones i have handles including higher end (over $100).
If i was in the market for a grip light combo, this i would invest in . YMMV

Thanks Mick-Boy for reminding me that I dont have my Mk18 yet....thanks alot.
Lol.
Someone else mentioned the Daniel Defense mount. I have that one on the M4. Its also really good for a space saver
They are plastic too
And?? Do you plan to go rappelling with your flashlight mount?
Your stock, handguards and grip are all made of plastic...

Actually I do not plan to go repelling with my light mount.
I also dont own any "Safe Queens" and I am by NO means EASY on my rifles or gear.
Weapon Lights, (to me) are necessity...it does me NO good should my mount break in a critical situation.
Im sorry I offended your light mount if you own one, Im not going by "hearsay", I bought the mount, didnt care for it and took it off.
I dont like the system, the spacer, the hardware or the mount itself.
But your argument was that it was made of plastic. And that is what throws me. I don't see how it can be a negative, really. It's lighter and cheaper than a metal mount.

Okay Ill throw it back on my rifle. Just for you. [ROFL1]
I didnt care for it, what do you want me to say?
Its huge. It sticks out way too far, its a clamp style which if you try getting a bigger light in it sucks.
The "rotating" spacer I cant stand.
There is no room to just loosen the clamp.
Oh and its plastic too

What's the point of being on a gun forum if you're not being encouraged to buy expensive new toys. ;)
Regarding the VTAC mount - In the past two years I've spent about two months at a facility that uses those mounts on student guns. They have had several failures due to the mounts being over-tightened. The metal bracket would cut into the polymer of the mount and once that happened the mount was damn near un-usable. True, that's a user error. But it happened to enough mounts that I noticed.

Mick-Boy, Ya I have had pics hanging up at work of different ones for 6 months. Its my inspiration when I can afford it lol.
Ridge. Let me clarify that I am not attacking your mount or your decisions. I ordered on and tried it. And took it off.
Ill say again that I push my rifles and gear HARD. I would not compare My CTR to a VTAC mount. Its not the same
My M4 is also my home defense rifle and I have a family. Its a chance and an UN-necessary risk I am not willing to take.
It didnt work for ME or for my needs.
Does that mean its wrong? No. If you like it then thats okay.
Im not bashing your decisions in any way

that's why we have choices regarding accessories. Luckily there is not a cookie cutter one size fits all we must use. I like some magpul items, the magazines, trigger guard and buttstock. everything else seems to be name branded items others sell too. Granted they are US mfg which is a +1 in anybodies book
some of the shit gun owners install gives me a headache trying to figure out why the hell did they spend money on that. But hey it's their money and gun.

Yes, and thats why I made it clear that I wasnt judging or bashing or anything else along those lines.
I stated that I tried it and didnt care for it. I got jumped on cause I didnt like it.
I dont think any of my weapons are over done or have useless crap.
I dont think I own "Accesories", only necessities.
