Personally, I find it beautiful, but terrifying. If that is what it actually looked like outside at night, I'd be too scared to sleep. The idea of all that out there scares the crap out of me for some reason.

The bizarre configuration could have been caused by the chance capture of material from a passing galaxy by the disk galaxy...

Gah, I can't even comprehend that. It's not like a relay race. It'd take millions of years for the hand off of that material!
