Don't talk to me on the phone for a week and say you're interested in something, then make me take time out of my work day to meet up with you so you can see the thing and take it for a test drive, then tell me you like it and are going to buy it.... and then be a complete pain in the ass to get a hold of, say you're going to come on a certain day and then not, then wait a day to return a voicemail, then show up an hour late after I kindly get my ass up at some ungodly hour on my one day to sleep in cause you want to buy it and that's the only time you can make it, then show up with some f*cking long haired hoodlum-looking probably illegal Mexican (or Indian, or Puerto Rican, or something) that calls himself a mechanic to take it for ANOTHER test drive burning my fuel (shit ain't cheap asshole), and then say you're not going to buy it because your guy says the power steering doesn't work despite it working fine and him not knowing what he's talking about.

Yeah, disappointing rant, I know.
On another note... if someone wants a truck, I was expecting to get rid of it today and didn't so I'm kind of in a vulnerable state where I could likely be talked down in price [Coffee]

He was just being difficult because you wouldn't let his cousin load it on the transporter while the cashier's check was in the mail to you.

Yeah, selling vehicles on Craigslist is a PITA. [Beer]

I sold a motorcycle on there once, and have another one for sale on there right now, and it went okay. I had about 10 responses, three actually showed up to see it when they said they would. I think when it comes to craigslist, dealing with the shit is just part of trying to sell stuff on there.

Never had issues with getting flagged, other than like twice and that was my fault.
95 F250 Powerstroke.

Lol... that's the thing, he actually seemed legit (more to the story than just what I posted). Oh well, that's life. Puts a big dent in my taking women out/getting new tattoos/getting new guns plans though.
And yeah, this will be the 13th vehicle I've bought/sold through CL... PITA is right.

I've had this listed for like 4 months, and between texts/emails/calls I've had probably close to 100 people interested in it. 3 of them have showed up.

That sucks! I've bought and sold about 4 vehicles on CL and haven't really had problems. Must be seasonal or something.

A couple of months ago I found some tires I needed. I called and said I will take them for the ASKING price but need to go home and get a vehicle to pick them up. Well, the guy sold them out from under me while I was in transit…never picked up the phone so I could get directions.

On a positive note, I always get my house rented posting it on Craigslist and I acquired A LOT of free firewood.

Looks like a pretty good deal; I would be interested but can't afford it right now. Hope it works out.

Thanks. Yeah that's what I was thinking. These are usually posted for $1-2k more in worse or equal condition, and $3-5k more in nice shape (I sold a 96 that I took really good care of for $10k last year).
I tried telling him that, that even if it did need a new power steering pump/gearbox/entire PS system that the extremely low price should still be worth it. I also tried explaining to him that there's nothing wrong with the PS system, and that when you lift a truck you change the angles of the steering linkage (leverage) and large tires are harder to turn (bigger contact patch with the ground) which makes it more difficult to steer... simple physics/mechanics. Guy didn't even want to shoot a lowball offer when I gave him the chance with "Alright then, what do YOU think it's worth?"
Oh well.

Dammit mcantar! Had you put it up for sale back in June my buddy would have swooped on it in a minute! He was in the market for a mid-90's Ford and his budget was "anywhere under $5K." Looks nice and clean, AND it's a 5-speed. What kinda mileage does it have? I might forward the ad to my buddy anyway, he loves to buy from Service Members (I almost sold him my '00 Durango right after returning from the box) and help where and when he can.

Guess your buddy musta missed it. Though I had it listed for $5k then so it might have been overlooked.
Mileage is 240k (sounds high but keep in mind what engine we're talking about here...).

Ooh, nice truck ... you take payments? How about you cash this 3rd party cheque for $6000 ... and keep a couple hundred extra for your trouble ... oh and can you ship the car to my cousin in Nigeria, he's a prince ya know?

[ROFL1]

One minor nitpick about your ad ... you put the price in as $4 ... so if I'm searching for an F250 that's under $3000 (for example) yours shows up.

I tried to GIVE away a TV on CL, a 37" tube type that needed a small repair (we replaced it with a flat screen), and got nothing but grief.

When I told one lady we lived in the country, she said "Oh, I'm scared to go out in the country". Another guy said he needed it for a housebound handicapped lady. Never showed up. Another couple got mad because they couldn't find my house after very specific instructions (ask Zundfolge how easy my house is to find).

After about six no shows and three weekends, one guy actually showed up and took it.

Coming from Pueblo it's exactly 2 turns. From Colorado Springs its 3. Sheesh.

This has been my experience.

I tried to give away a piano on CL had a bunch of people set up times to come get it and never show up.

That's why I even try to sell non-gun stuff here, it's just easier.

Which is exactly why I do it. If someone only has $3800, and they do a search for that as the max amount my truck will come up, and then the haggling starts.

CL is PITA, however you have to have the right mindset when posting there. When selling, I refuse to make special appointments or meet someone if it is not convenient for me. My attitude is "swing by", because experience has been 90% of callers never do. I've learned that your item is really only wanted by a small percentage of people and if they are serious, the price is right, they will be at your door step with cash.

<begin rant> My rant is that too many people on CL are trying to get retail prices for their POS. I've obtained several really good deals (even on CL banned items), but most sellers think their item is "like new". I think of CL as a garage sale and expect garage sale prices. I've actually called several people on items and they are just stoopid about it. Really? you want to sell me your camping stove that was only "used 1 time" for the same price as retail and think i'm excited cause i'm saving whopping $5 in sales tax. I don't know maybe some people are buying that stuff. <end rant>

cheers and happy buying
Tim

Well yours isn't as bad as the schmucks with $15,000 cars listed for $1, but when I search I tend to search for listings a couple hundred bucks more than my top dollar.

So do I, but not everyone thinks that far ahead. So this just helps them out a little.
Besides, if they're dumb enough to think I'm selling a running, driving vehicle for $4.00, they probably wouldn't be able to figure out how to call about it anyway.

I sold my 96 with 385k on it for $3000 a while back. Still ran like a champ. God I miss that 7.3l.

IMO they're the best engine ever built. Things are like freakin tanks. Soon as I get back I WILL be getting another one... just can't decide if I want an OBS or a SD.

mcantar18c
09-30-2011, 03:25
That's why I can't decide between an OBS and an SD. I love the way a beefed up SD looks... a guy I know dubbed his truck the Iron Pig, which would be what I'd model it after if I go with an SD (but in black/gunmetal two-tone):

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh304/mudrunninpig/new%20pics%20front%20bumper/img_0725.jpg

But I can't get over how much I love a nice, clean, white/chrome OBS like my old baby...

The OBS is cheaper, but there's more aftermarket for the SDs....

Yup! The Iron Pig lives in South Carolina and has become pretty famous in the PSD world. Surprised you've seen my old OBS floating around... I ain't been on any of the PSD forums in quite a while, wonder if its become famous too...

redneck122
09-30-2011, 03:35
not idea if its famous on there, i havent been on in a while either. But for some reason your truck must have made an impression in my head haha

mcantar18c
09-30-2011, 03:51
Yeah, it had that effect... its like that ex you have that you always kick yourself for letting go (actually, "that" ex of mine is in that pic lol). I had lots of conversations with people that would ask me where they might know me from, and it usually ended up as "oh you're the guy with that big white truck." Everybody knew that thing.
You're making me nostalgic. I need another OBS damnit.

Crap, I need to sell this one first [Bang]

Old Busted Shitpile?? [Tooth]

LOL... in some cases :D
The 7.3 Powerstroke was used from 1994 to mid 2003 (though finding an 03 7.3 is like a needle in a haystack, I've seen a whopping two of them... and I've seen a lot of trucks). Ford completely redesigned the body/interior of the F-series trucks in 1998 (99 model year) and called the F250-650/750 "Super Duty's" (7.3 was only offered up to the 450's IIRC). So you have two generations of trucks with the 7.3 Powerstroke diesel engine... Old body style trucks and the Super Duty trucks.
And because people are too lazy to type shit out you end up with PSD, OBS, and SD.

Nothing's wrong with the one I have now (other than the stuff listed in the ad, but it was my daily driver till the tags expired)... I just don't want to deal with it because I'm cheap. I ship out Nov 14 and won't be back for a while so I don't have any use for it. I'm too cheap to transport it to where I'm going (cheap transportation is widely available), I'm too cheap to pay to store it anywhere, and I'm too cheap/lazy to want to do all of the long-term storage and revival crap that a diesel requires even if I were to leave it out in a friend's barn or something.
If it were built like my old truck it wouldn't even be a question, but there will always be another one I can pick up so there's no point keeping this one to build later.

Lol... CA. Don't get me started. I bought my first diesel (a lifted 6.9 IDI F350) up in Boulder... the looks on the hippie's faces as I chugged by billowing black smoke without even meaning to is what sold me on it [Tooth]
