View Full Version : Are There Any Hogs Here??
Ive done quite a bit of feral hog termination down in TX and have had a terrific time doing it.
But what I really want to know is,
ARE THERE ANY HOG HERE IN THE WILD???
Ive heard all about Lajunta and Kiowa county and stories about some river bed, but are they true? And did the D.O.W kill em all in a huge APOCALYPSESOW operation?
Many questions. Many questions.

I'm interested in this as well. I've heard rumors/stories about hog populations in a couple areas but nothing solid.
Boar/feral hog is probably my favorite game to hunt, right next to elk. Spent some time down south learning to hunt em with with a dog and a blade... nothing quite comes close to the feeling you get after a kill like that, nor does anything taste quite as good... nor does anything make you appreciate Pit Bulls the way it does.

If you see a hog, they are shoot on sight and no license is required. (I believe, last time I checked)
Colorado does not want feral hog problems and places that allowed and charged for hunting them are now out of business.
There are a few hogs moving north from Ok,Tx but farmers/ranchers are for the most part stopping them as they come in. The winters here are too harsh and north of the Arkansas River usually do not survive the winter. Just hope some smart a$$ doesn't cross them with the European boars like they did in Penn. so they can survive here.
In the past there were places in Baca county, Canon City and Pueblo that had hunt-able feral hogs... now closed.

Hang out for awhile on the 16th street mall, or better yet Mall Wart, you could try Country Buffet, but may be restricted "baited field", ya know!, I have a Game warden friend I can quiz about the 4 legged kind, and will get back.

[ROFL1] Classic! Been a native in Colorado for 38 years and I have never seen a wild hog, including all my hunting trips. I went to school in La Junta for College back when, none there then, but they do have the "Hogs Breath Saloon" (Can't stop laughing at Tactical's comment).

Thanks guys. Looks like I may be goin out to Texas again, instead of going on a wild goose chase. I truly understand why these animals are not wanted in Co, the speed at which they breed and the damage they do in crazy.
@mcantar18c I feel you on the knife kill, really a different kinda experience. (http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/member.php?u=4306)
Some on here could be considered hogs, but most are just pigs.

If they are, they are good hiding little bastards. No one around here has seen any, plenty of elk, deer, and bears, but no hogs.

Spoke with my Game Warden friend today, he said there were some small pockets of them, many in the San Luis Valley, and there was a problem recently in Eastern Adams county, they are not considered a game animal, but a nuisance, no license is required , just permission of the land owner. I live in Eastern Elbert County, not far of course, from Eastern Adams, I will keep asking my friends and neighbors for any info.

If there are, lets get rid of em. Seen the damage they do in GA and AL. Fun to shot, not good for much else
