Try these to sites. Good for generating multiple quotes from many companies. I know agents that use these sites. I've had BlueCross/Shield and now have Assurant. Good luck.

the only thing that's slightly affordable is a catastrophic care (high deductible)
try Cover Colorado
it's the "last choice" for Colorado (if everyone rejects you) but it turns out to be way cheaper than everyone else. (80/20, $2000 deductible) and i've had no issues in 4 years.
and it's month to month.
or other high deductible or like a Kaiser.
the male isn't the expensive part, it's the female and the kids.

You can get Cobra through your previous employer for up to 18 months.
When I was a private consultant with my own company I used Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Shield as well as United Health care.
All I have to suggest is if you can swing it get CIGNA, by far the best provider I have ever had. Both arms broke, ER visit, 7 Dr's visits with x-rays and 14+ PT visits and so far my grand total is $500 plus co-pays ($50 per PT visit).
Call your insurance agent.

Your down in the Springs- try Dave Boucher @ www.inhisstepsinsurance (http://www.inhisstepsinsurance)
He is helping me through a bit of a insurance hassle now thanks to OblowmeCare.
I have had the same health care for 20 years (Kaiser) through my employer with the same dependents listed the entire time-wife and 2 kids.
During our open enrollment period this year we were to provide "Eligibility of Dependants" documentation. Now keep in mind the only time I had to do anything close to this was when I first started work there and when my second son was born. Never had to do anything of the such since.
I was a week late getting it to them due to some logistical issues and guess what-The assclowns denied coverage for my wife and kids.
Yup- for the previous 19 years they were covered but now because of "Administrative" requirements of OblowmeCare they are not.
Pissed me right the fuck off. Still am and I take it as a decision that has potential to put my families lives at risk.
You want to tag me with a penalty fee for being late, fine.
But because of some administrative fucks decision my wife and kids are swinging in the breeze. How fucking dare you!
Did I mention I'm pissed?
Sorry to rant[Rant1][Rant2] and didnt mean to hijack ya.
Good luck Brother

Considering your and your wife's ages you'll probably find that you can get better health insurance cheaper than through work (We've bought our own insurance for more than the last decade and its always been better than what I could get at work and cheaper even with the company contribution).
We've got a plan through Humana ... you'll just need to shop around.
