I'm going to order one in 9x19. This will be my first 1911 and hopefully the caliber choice will get the purists panties up in a bunch. After the FFL fee and taxes I should be looking at no more than $630.00

On that note, that parkerizing is FUGLY. What are some recommendations on making this thing look good?

I see all sorts of comments on Duracoat, Cerakote, Plasti-Dip (jk), etc. etc. What lasts the longest and provides the best finish? What kind of prices am I looking at for each?

This will be strictly a shooter. Maybe some steel challenges, maybe some IPSC shoots, who knows, but I don't baby my stuff.

I was thinking something a long the lines of OD Green frame with a black slide, black grips, and black safety, slide lock, etc.

Something similar to this - http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh54/elcaballoloco1/wcqb-t-a.jpg

I had a STI Trojan in 9mm
Great gun
Wish I had never sold it.
Finding magazines for the 9mm can be a bitch. (and confusing them with your .45's is worse)

Geez, i was thinking that green frame was ugly, not the parkerizing. [Coffee]

I was looking at the Trojan really really hard but it's just out of my budget, no matter which way I swing it.

Hahahaha...that green frame is a little different but I'm getting sick of black guns. I could have a green frame or a tan frame but after four deployments I'm getting sick of tan too. Either way, a 1" or so SF crest on the grips should suit it nicely.

Reading your discription of the colors you wanted, I thought it probably wouldn't look too good. Once I scrolled down to the picture you posted I thought it looked really sharp!

Thanks a lot!

I considered a white frame because my race car is white and black but then I was like...

Hey Crazy Horse,
Have you contacted Bert at BP Tactical about the redo for your STI ?
He can do almost anything you can dream up as far as refinishing and add a few mods while it is there.

I found them on Gunbroker and ordered through Bellshire Guns out of Nashville. They were very easy to work with and I got a killer deal on it. I think you'll get a better price by calling and talking to them instead of using GB. Free shipping as well. They have 8-9 ads up on GB so I'm sure they have more.

PM replied. Thanks for the information!

I really appreciate you putting sneakerds stuff on hold so you can take care of all my junk. [ROFL2]

You must be the other guy Bert was talking about. He kept saying "I wish that John creepo would quit trying to shove his junk into my hands".

Hahaha...I don't own handguns in any other calibers. I need to keep my calibers consolidated to keep the cost and simplicity at a maintainable level.

Close to it. Maybe when I can get all set up on reloading I'll be more interested in some other calibers.

It's getting closer!

?? SF Crest?? Is that Special Forces (USA), or Security Forces (USAF)?

Special Forces. While not a green beret, I have been SF support for a good while now and have racked up a lot of great friends, time, and experience in the community. I'm going to SF selection here in a month or two to actually become one.

I was thinking of getting a cartoonish looking SUPPORT above and GUY below the crest. [ROFL2]
