Well guys the money I had set aside for a pistol is dwindling fast. There are 2 reasons for my indecision, 1st. I have not found a good deal on either pistol (want to pay under $1000) and second I just cant choose, I am going back and forth between the FN FNP .45 tactical, and the FN FiveseveN. What are your thoughts? After months of research and waiting I've narrowed it to these two and just cant get over the hump.

FNP. Easier to get ammo, probably cheaper too. Easier to get mags, probably cheaper too. In the end you are just shooting a pistol, and short of the revolver mag calibers, it isn't going to make a huge difference ballistically.

+1
I have a FiveSeven.. I don't shoot it much. There is no 'cheap' ammo for it.. 45 acp w/ the option of putting a can on it.. way cooler :)

Get an HK USP of either 40S&W or 45 ACP. You will not be disapointed.
FN pistols are unproven platforms IMHO. They are nice pistols, but I tend to choose on proven platforms.
5.7 might be a decent plinking round, but that's it. Not a good defensive round, and it's hard to find and relatively expensive for what it is.

Or a Sig Sauer basedon the fullsize of the FNP45 Id suggest either a P220 45ACP or P226 in 40S&W. There are full size and carry, meaning a 4" narrel for carry and 4.4" barrel for the fullsize. I can conceal either beautifully withe a crossbreed super tuck IWB holster [Beer]

Well you guys are just confirming the way I am already leaning, after handling the tactical the other day I really liked it. Anyone know where I can grab one for $1000 or under OTD??? been looking for a while and cant seem to find one.
As far as the USP suggestion, I like the USPs, however the tactical models are to much money and a 12 round capacity in a pistol that large makes no sense to me when the FN has 15, built in MRD mount and 3 mags for less. Plus I really dig the look and feel of the FDE model.

Sounds like you have your winner for the next pistola your gonna buy. I expect pics of said purchase once you get that bad boy. [Weight]
Try 5280 is the only shop I shall recommend on here. Not to say Machine Gun Tours in Lakewood or Jensens in Loveland might have the pistol. I dont care for those stores and are the last places Id go after checking out the internet and having it shipped to an FFL.
I am consitently on the verge of buying a P228 9mm, but I just cannot justify an $800 price tag on a run of the mill firearm.

MGT and 5280 both have it, but at a price well north of a grand, add in almost a bill in taxes and it puts it just out of my reach. I like both shops I just cant justify paying $200+ more for it to get it local. As much as I hate to wait I may have to break down and order it, but even then im a little north of a grand. BUT I just gotta have it.
for a thousand bucks I'd rather have two glocks than one FN.
but that's not what you were asking, so disregard! [Coffee]

You know its not that Glocks arent fine weapons, but just not for me, cant shoot em, dont care for the look or feel. carried one on duty for 3 years but only because I had $2500 into my custom 1911 and didnt want it to get scuffed up so I picked up the Glock brand new for $350 (yes this was a while back). Just not for me. My buddy picked up an FNX 9 a few months back and I shot it well and really liked it. My second choice besides the FNs would be an HK USP.

Get the FNP 45 tactical (it has a threaded barrel right?) then start saving money for a can.

fair enough.
for me $1000 and up is rifle money, not pistol.
at least for now... maybe someday $1000 for a pistol won't be that big of a deal.

I would get a nice 1911, but thats me.
+1 on NOT getting the 5.7
expensive, Horrible round for civilian defensive application unless the burglars in your neighborhood wear body armor.
It is a rifle round in a pistol... every time you fire you will most likely shoot through your target.

Sorry...in my opinion the only thing HK has "proven" is that their pistols are overpriced and they have the absolute worst customer service reputation in the entire firearms industry. Do they make top quality guns? Yes. But so does FN.
I'd have to agree with the OP...I'd take the FNP Tactical. I was considering one but just don't have the scratch right now.
And BTW...FN has been producing firearms far longer than HK.

Actually that's a common misconception. The 5.7 in the pistol (ss195 and ss197) actually penetrates less than 9mm unless your using the restricted AP ammo (ss190). As a matter of fact the FBI stated it did not meet their minimum of 11" of penetration when they tested it. I still plan to eventually get one, however the tactical is more appealing to me right now, after that I will start saving to upgrade my rifle situation.
Twenty eight minutes left on this one on GB. 254121659 Buy it now price of $1000

AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGG that would have been perfect, but I want the FDE. Normally I never even check gunbroker as the prices seem to always be high. But I will definitely start checking, thanks spyder!
With the fairly simple exterior, you could have it proffesionally recolored FDE to be either 2 tone black/FDE or the whole thing pretty easily. Granted that will get it back at 1grand, but I don't think you will ever find a screaming deal on either of the FN guns, just too few of them out there.
As far as original question, the .45 for sure. The 5.7 is still on my for fun if I had the cash just *laying* around.
Ok, then there is this one in FDE for a thousand: 254202650

I love GB, I just picked up a POF in 308 for two thousand, new. There are good deals, you just have to catch them.

This...
Or you can go dig a hole in the back yard, drop the $$$$ in there and save enough to go buy both.

For under 1k I would go for a High-power. Its classy and points so well. I got a FN MK 3 SFS High-power back in 2005 and I can not find another handgun that works as well. Just a suggestion.
Get the FNP45, I have one and it is an excellent pistol.

I own both pistol and they are excellent. The 5.7 is an amazing gun, really light and will make you feel like a marksman since it is so easy to shoot. 20 rnd in a mag, make for a lot of firepower in your hand. I was converted to it by a friend who carry a 5.7 as a truck driver in the middle east. His company only allowed one hand gun with 2 mags: one of his buddy was carrying a 1911 and run out of ammo in an ambush waiting for the army to rescue them, he was able to shoot (in the air) but kept the bad guys at bay.
5.7 is a perfect round for home defense, since it will kill the bad guy (tumbling bullet make for horrendous channel wound) but not go through your house drywall killing your kids in the other room....
Please don't listen to the BS about 5.7: This is a great round and the fn 5.7 is a great gun.

I know man, if you go back and read I already corrected this misconception on page 1 or 2. The FiveseveN is still very high on my list, and I also after much research have determined it to be a great SD round, however at this point Im leaning toward the tactical in .45 just due to ammo availibility (get it anywhere) and ease of reloading. Once I get it down good only then will I attempt to reload 5.7 as everyone I have asked even on the fiveseven forum states it is a tricky and unforgiving round.
