Something bad happened today to my mother in law.

Last week i went to the shooting range and picked up a bullet i found laying on the ground. When i got home i put it on my work bench and it just sat there. My mother in law has been staying in our second bedroom which is a guest room/ my work room where i clean my guns and build my model air planes. Some time during the week the bullet fell over and rolled into her purse. When she went to the airport the TSA found it when she went through security. She got on the plane, but what is going to be the after math of this? Will the AFT/TSA/FBI be knocking on my door this week?

Thanks
I accept that Iam a dumbass

Nothing will happen except you getting an earful from your Mother In Law.

Nothing. I walked through LAX security with a half dozen rounds of live ammunition in my carry on bag.

I did that both through DIA and on the way back from Detroit's Warren Int Airport. That place is a joke as far as an airport is concerned.

It's Detroit, what do you expect? People don't care what the refugee centers look like compared to the warzone they're leaving ;)

True Story:

Went from DIA to New Jersey and then on to Amsterdam and connected to Zurich... and then, 3 Weeks Later... came back through Zurich to Amsterdam and hit New Jersey and then... suddenly... the fecal material came into contact with the air movement device!!! I used to... repeat: used to... employ one of my Carry On Bags as a Range Bag and I had inadvertantly left a Speed Loader, with 6 Remington .357 Magnum Golden Sabers, in it!!! Not only was the TSA a bit "put out" but, I soon discovered, the New Jersy Gestapo feel particularly strongly that ONLY LAW ENFORCEMENT should be allowed to possess Hollow Point Ammo. Got Patted Down (no strip search... phew!!), Got Cuffed (I'm a big boy... it took two pairs of cuffs), Got Arrested (had to endure about two hours of various uniformed goons shouting, "Wheyas da' gun, azzhole?" [New Jersey, remember?] in my face... not fun), Got Booked, Spent 4-Hours in a Holding Cell, Released, Spent the Night at one of the Luxurious & Cost Effective Airport Hotels (missed my flight... big surprise, huh?), Spent MONEY for a GOOD Attorney, Flew back to New Jersey, Rented a Car, Drove to Trenton, Explained my Foolishness to the Judge, Plead Guilty to the Reduced Charge of "Littering" (Yep... no lie... Littering), Gave 'em 4 Benjamins and got the hell out of Dodge before they changed their narrow minds!!!

Expensive little brain cramp, that was...[Tooth]

In short, I don't think that you or your mother in law will hear a peep about it from any Governmental-types ever again.

Amazing to see burned out homes off the highway from Port Huron to South Eastern Detroit.
Pure hellhole and warzone of a city. [Bang]

I went through security with an empty mag in my back pack. DIA, no problem. IAD, security got called. When the found it I told them, look I have a flight to catch and it is empty. Keep it, throw it away, just don't make me late for my flight. Had to wait till the cops showed up.

No anal probes so I guess it wasn't all bad.

There is federal law on the books that exempts travelers from dealing with another state's gun laws as long as they don't stop for anything other than gas or food. Since you never left the airport property, you would have been covered by it.

I know this is very unrealistic for most but this kinda crap is the foremost reason I won't fly. Imagine the grief competitive shooters have to go through. Swab your shoes for "explosives residue" after a match where you blasted 2K rounds and forgot your extra shoes.
As far as the Jersey story it wasn't too long ago a gent was traveling through Jersey while he was moving IIRC with 2 handguns in a properly locked and checked case and some authority types found it and the boo-boo broke loose. Jersey tried busting him for "unregistered handguns". He eventually won but it was a long drawn out mess.

My sister in law lives just outside of Detroit-River Rouge. She said it is almost a daily occurrence where her or one of here neighbors has fresh bullet holes in the house or sidewalk.

The comment about the mother in law never speaking to you again- [LOL][LOL]

Same experience at LAX after getting past DIA security. Patdown, questions about why I have bullets, and a TSA report. They told me to expect a letter from the US Atty telling me yeh or ney but I never rec'd anything.

I read an article written by a competitive shooter about tips for traveling with firearms. His advice was to flat out avoid Chicago, no if's and's or but's.

in '05 a friend and I fly someplace. At DIA we both got the extra special security attention to detail, full pat down etc... and almost missed our flight. At the gate my friend looked at his boarding pass and started laughing. We had each others boarding pass by accident. Only thing in common was our first name.

Full security screen, invalid match between boarding pass and ID yet allowed to proceed. Got to love it.

Don't worry, the government is here to keep you safe

I got busted for ammo in the bag at DIA too. On my way to DC, forgot that I had ammo in the pocket of my coat. Cops and TSA came over, searched everything, and I felt like a dumbass

Three years ago I went to myrtle beach sc. When I unpacked my bag I found nine 9mm bullets in a side compartment. Oops!!! I guess strip searching and pat downs are not the most effective ways of finding "bad things" I got so lucky! I was trembling after I found them.

It was a carry on btw

Back in '87, I flew from Syracuse back to OKC. My "carry-on" back then was a big-ass camera bag with all my camera gear in it. To make a long story short, I'd forgotten there was a little .22 short revolver tucked in that camera bag. It was loaded too.

It went through two x-rays and one hand inspection, and nobody found that gun. I found it when I was back home and looking in the bag for something, I swear I turned white as a sheet and very nearly shat myself. Sumbitch stayed at the house when I flew back to NY, I gar-on-tee that!

When I was in the army...

One time I was going on midtour leave from Iraq, flying to Germany for leave so I got to board a commercial flight in Kuwait International. Well I had an assault pack with me, and could of sworn I checked every pocket for prohibited stuff.

Went through the 1st scanner, it goes off. Starts searching my bag to find 2 30rd mags full of ammo tucked behind the plastic hard pierce on the back part so I never felt the mags there and forgot I had put them there months ago with other ammo in the pack while we did missions.

Long story short, security didn't give a shit lol. Guy laughed, I was embarassed until he tossed the mags into a box that had probally 100+ mags in them.

Good thing they caught it though (went through FIVE checkpoints at that place until I got on the plane lol) cause if I had been caught in Europe with that kind of stuff it would of been hell to pay.

Correct... and, in a courtroom, that is truely relevant. Unfortunately, to the average cement-headed, jack-booted, New Jersey Cop... It Ain't Relevant... especially when they have you in cuffs treating you like they just snagged Osama Bin Freakin' Laden!!
