so i am going to be doing my first build here soon. i have been saving all of my change for a year or so... but i am looking at tools and that is adding up to the price of the darn gun(well not quite but you know what i mean.) i have a good jump on them as i have other guns i work on and such. but there are a lot of things i cant see spending a ton of cash on for just one build. i am mostly talking about the assembly blocks and roll pin HOLDERS i have the punches and maybe an ar-15 armorers tool. is there any place that is renting these town?? or maybe a used set for cheep??
Thank you for the info.

For what you will spend in tools I will build it for you. Plus you will have the piece of mind knowing it is done correctly with the proper tools and details are paid attention to. Headspace will be checked and if need be I will give you the 10 cent tour through your new rifle.
PM me if interested.

How much are you going to build? You could always borrow someones roll pin punches and castle nut tool.

Building on a tight budget ? You may as well add a bunch of cash to that budget, as it progresses you will change your mind as far as what you originally planed, then all the neat gizmos and tacticool items start whispering to you to be added. And when that build is finally done, you will start another...and another and so on because you will be addicted by then and won't be able to control that addiction.
DANGERTASTIC!

Sideshow Bob said it good. You will change your mind and your setup as you go. It might not be huge but builds usually change.
As for your tools, all you need is a few punches and a castle nut wrench.
You can pick these up from CheaperThanDirt for $10.00 http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/2TINTOOL904-1.html
You really should buy tools to own, trust me, you WANT to have them.
I never understood the whole "Budget build" thing. A rifle is something that needs ammo to utilize, does ammo fit into your budget? Or magazines?
Plus, the budget usually means lower quality parts get used, which leads to failures = more $$$
Its always a good idea to save up a little more for quality stuff

i am building a good rifle mostly YHM parts with a few MAGPUL things. i have a bolt action rifle that uses 5.56 so i have almost 1200 rounds to brake in my ar build... and already have 5 or so mags on hand that i but here and there when i have a few extra $$. so i should state that i am trying not to waste money on things i dont need, and save them for the things that i do.
