Just outside the Eisenhower Tunnel.
I blame Obama.

Looks like a Satan truck.

There is a lot of sadness in trucking...

I'd say that the engine finally tooka shiat and was hauling way to much for the mountain grades.

Where is the driver?
No clue.
A friend took this and sent it to me. If I were there I would have stopped and done whatever I could have.

Really? I hope my sarcasm meter has run out. You do realize truckers have this shit happen all the damn time? I could see if it was a regular vehicle etc, but the fire prob started from an overheated engine or electrical fualt.
I drive a shitload of miles a year on the highways from North Dakota to Texas, I think around 150K a year roughly, and NEVER stop for rigs. I will sometimes stop for regular folks in vehicles, but not rigs. Those bastards wont stop for you or anyone else and I rarely stop for regular folks anymore since I was almost hit by a passer by, it was within an inch she almsot hit my leg and took me out.
Just really curious why you would stop and put yourself in more danger then need be since 99.9999% of drivers on the highway are shit drivers and also wouldnt ever stop for you???

For a truck that's just broken down, I usually keep about my business. But a truck that's going up in flames like that? Guy could probably use a hand.
And this:

Is no reason not to help someone.
Sure, I've been broken down on the side of the highway and NOBODY stopped to help... that doesn't mean I should go around with a chip on my shoulder thinking "Screw you, nobody helped me when I needed it, so I won't stop for you" when I see someone on the side of the road.
Just because its what most people do (or don't do), doesn't make it the right thing to do.

I agree with you on the chip pn my shoulder. I rarely stop anymore mainly because I was almost hit and it wouldnt have turned out well for me.

Why I have my CCW on me and not sitting in the truck. If I end up helping someone.

isn't he on the downhill side (going west on the west side of Eisenhower)?
engine cools thru the tunnel (trust me, I have a Columbia just like that truck) once you're up the hill and it's not that hot out. Diesels don't explode, they just stop making power when they overheat. Probably a brake or bearing fire.
If you drove a truck you'd never stop for cars either. Fucking idiots the lot of ya. If it was on fire, they'd probably stop. Truck drivers have limited time. They get 11 hours of driving time a day and they get paid by the mile. If they stop for you because you're broken down then they lose hours of pay, their load might be late, might be fired, etc. I don't stop for anyone either in town or on the freeway. In the middle of nowhere in a snow storm, sure I'll stop for a minute "need a ride?", but otherwise I"m moving on. Truck or car.
Worst part about a truck fire, is the guy is going to lose all his stuff in the truck. The truck is certainly a company truck, but all his personal stuff is in the cab, sleeper, etc. I know guys who take multiple pickup loads of stuff out when they change jobs.

Yeah that trucker will certainly miss all of his porn videos, smelly, unwashed clothes, his cooler and of course the un-thrown "trucker bombs"![ROFL1]

This!
Three words to remember: Pay it Forward!
Thats still on the uphill run to the tunnel heading west. Must have been a bearing or electrical cause. Guy should have unhitched the trailer from the tractor but Im sure its a company truck and he doesn't care too much.

You know what cracks me up is how semi truck drivers talk about 4 wheelers (Cars) and how they dont stop for them and how they cant drive. How do you get to work? or how does your family get around? and how did you get around before you started driving a semi? how did you get to the place were you got the job? if you are the type that is always in your truck. I guess I wont stop for wrecked semi trucks and help people out anymore when I see one on the highway that has been blown over by the wind, since I know how you guys feel about regular drivers. I have had to help a few drivers that were injured from being blown over being that I am certified in first aid CPR ect, I was going to be an EMT. Also my aunt was almost killed by a semi who was not paying attention to the road and ran over her pinto. I used to drive a Freightliner I have been cut off a few times but I also drive a car so I guess I cant talk about those who drive cars as I am one of them. I do try to help anyone I can and I always stop for a Motorcycle that is broke down, I have always felt that it is kind of an unspoken rule if you ride. I hope you dont take it the wrong way, I am not trying to be a jerk I am just curios as to why alot of semi truck drivers talk about cars and then get in their car or truck and drive home.

I have a gripe along with this one- I got yelled at for being on CH19 on my old CB (years ago- don't have one for the current car)- he said, "this radio is for truckers only!" Sorry, I forgot CB stands for Trucker Band radio... dumbass. Some truckers are d-bags, but I like to give the benefit of the doubt that not all are coked up meth heads that think they own the road.
best guess is that he had an electrical fire or somehow got fuel on the turbo and lit it up the fire on the ground could be from the oil pan melting as the detroits run a plastic pan.
And john when ya gonna get a real truck[Coffee]
I can get you a deal on a KW
I had an electric problem one time a link burned out and killed the truck. I fixed the link and relized that the battery was to low to start. I waited for 10 minutes with 100s of cars driving by no one stopped. I tried the thumb, the leg sticking out no one stopped so I just hooked up my jumper cables and stuck those out the side of the truck with the message I need a jump. Well it wasn't long after, that a car full of marines showed and gave me jump. Not a lot of talk but many thanks were exchanged. My truck fired right up and I was on my way. I pull over every now and then not expecting something in return. Maybe they will do it for someone or they won't but I'm glad I helped if I could.

I'm a really stupid SOB
I have two trucks, one driver (me)
a Mack RD, and the Columbia
[Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang]
I have GOT to win lotto.
I've been known to help people broke down on the roadside. Changed flats, given jumps, rides to get gas, even flagged down a trucker whose brakes were smoking. Been awhile though.
sucks for that guy and the company. hope they are insured.
DFBrews and I were messing with my CB radio set-up tonight. I heard the WORST attempt at insulting people tonight. And I heard my first lot lizard. Heh.

Yeah, I could hear when you were talking because the fuzz changed pitch, and this was about a block after the light. I made some tight turns on the way home, and the squelch would change around when the spring went back and forth over large bumps. I think it might be that spring as well.
That's 11 minutes of my life I'm not going to get back. Although, filling up with gas was pretty cool. Something I wish I could do again.
