I am going to be buying 1000-1500 rounds this month. I am newbish, so this will be my largest ammo purchase to date.

I have been looking around and trying different things, and have a budget of about $600. (Just got the girl a puppy)

I am looking for a decent round based on 3 criteria.

I want a round that is more accurate than PMC Bronze or the American eagle .223, is cheap enough to shoot, and is good for HD and SHTF.

Im thinking my forst option would be just to buy 1500 rounds of this .223 64gr BVAC PSP (http://www.surplusammo.com/products/.223-64-Grain-PSP-BVAC-%252d-500-Rounds%2C-New%2C-Bulk.html) for a total of approx $600

Or, 1500 rounds of Privi partizan 69gr PPU (http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=AP223HP69&name=Prvi+Partizan+PPU+.223+69grn+Match+HP+20rd+Bo x&groupid=21)for about the same $600

Or should I get like 500-750 rounds of each?

my lack of experience here has me seeking the knowledge of the uber gurus

I would split it up and get two different types, that way you have some diversity when you are at the range

Wideners is selling 1200 rnds of 55gr lead core FMJ Israeli Military Industries ammo for $318. Good ammo, good brass to reload. Can't really go wrong and the price is very low.

See, I know i can find good ammo cheaper.

But i like the Soft tip heavier bullets for HD and SHTF.

I stock pile about 1/4 to 1/3 of all the ammo i buy.

So if i got 1500 rounds, at least 500 would go in the pile.

Look in the Ammo thread under the buyer intel section of the trading post. There were some good deals there.

So, I need to get some more input....

2000 rounds of PMC Bronze .223

OR

2000 rounds of Federal American Eagle?

Im a noob, but have sent 500 rounds of the American eagle downrange with 0 problems.
It seems to burn very clean and the accuracy seems to be fantastic for me.
But again , I really have nothing to compare it to besides Tula. Which won't cycle in my gun and is filthy dirty.

So on AR15dotcom,

I was told neither, and to buy XM193.

What makes the gurus hold XM193 over PMC or FAE?

Mil -Spec, PMC and AE are commercial grade. But remember the X = rejects.

We use the American Eagle ammo at work for practice ammo, I've never had a problem with it and I've shot a lot of it. Unfortunately we don't get to shoot it at more than 50 yards typically so I don't have much experience with accuracy and distance.

Some of the headstamps are Fed, but a lot of them are LC stamped.

I actually ended up getting IMI M193 cheaper than Federal.

But the ball and chain would only let me get 1200 rounds.

So i got 2 custom engraved machetes too LOL.
