I purchased an Arsenal SGL21 and installed a Midwest Industries Handguard. After the install, I found it near impossible to get the cleaning rod back into place. What's my problem?

It seems to be getting stuck in the handguard. Not sure if the rod is even meant to remount after the MI hanguard installation.

Check the alignment of the hole relative to the retainer/handgaurd/receiver combination. A little mis alignment will throw the rod off and cause it to hang up. If needed wallow out the hole in the HG. It may cause a bit of a rattle but the rod won't go anywhere.

Thanks BP. I'll do that. I'm not even sure if I want it back in.

Mine is the same way (not an arsenal). I purchased mine with the midwest HG on it already and it came with the cleaning rod in it. I took the cleaning rod out and couldn't get it back in. I had to take my hand guard apart to get it back in. My cleaning rod has a bit of a bend in it now and I probably won't be taking it out again.

I actually called Midwest Indutries today and they are well aware of the rod issue. The person I spoke with said they receive a lot of calls on this very thing. I'm still not sure if I want to rip the whole thing apart to put the rod back in. The pictures on their website don't even show it installed. That being said I'm impressed so far with the weight and fit on the rifle.

I have an SGL21-66 with some sort of rail system already on it. The cleaning rod is still in the box. Matter of fact, so is the gun. I've never fired it...hell, I've never loaded it.

Then again, I wouldn't use that cleaning rod anyway.
