I've cut, blocked and split 5 cords of firewood recently. Still need to stack it. Had the first fire in the woodstove last night. Haven't really needed one til now.
The Aspens have turned and the wind's blown most of the gold off the hills now.
I think it's time to haul out the cold-weather clothes and mount the plow to the mule.
I really don't like winter...but it has it's place, I guess. I just wish it's place was somewhere else.
i do love to hate the cold , dont mind snow that much but i do wish it would wait a week

I was thinking about going mountain biking in the snow on Boreas Pass up in Breckenridge. I wonder how much snow they got last night.
Weather Underground says there is 1 to 2 inches, I can negotiate that.
I'm with ya' Bailey, started preppin' some weeks back. Changed the oil in the snowblower and the generator, 280' of heat tape adjusted and re-secured on the roof, fresh synthetics in the engines, diffs & xfr case (still new winter tire shopping - "no more AT treads for me"), vehicles winterized, emergency bags checked & refreshed, snow shovels and supplies loaded, maint on the fireplace, and on and on...everything just "takes a little more" when you live in the high-country don't it?
PS - I was down-the-hill but my lady called to let me know it was snowing on the home-front. Nothing accumulated but...damn...snowed yesterday here and it is 28 degrees right now. I'm good, ski season is just around the corner. :)

And anyone that was thinking of the Cleanup/camping at the south site please go look at the thread. We may call this one.

I can't wait to get out of suburbia hell.
Not bad, not much snow yet. We have a killer view of Evans, Rosalie, Logan, and looks like a dusting. I love all the seasons, can't wait till ice fishing. And as we all know we will have those warm days in November even..

Same boat over here on Floyd Hill. I've got 2 cords split and need to get back at it.
I have about 8 cords but the plow is broke as well as the mule that pushes it [Bang][Bang][Bang]

Driving up I-70W into Evergreen this morning- saw snow on the mountains (from the top of the hill at Genesee) that I didn't see yesterday... it's here! Now if only I could afford a new snowboard now- mine is waay old. Budget time!

Well I'm saving up for a Never Summer Heritage 158... It's the look, style and construction I want, unless you have one like it? The Heritage costs $550.

No Heritage, but thats a good board for sure. I have other boards that are hand made in Colorado with similar or better construction. Most are 160cm+ though. Unity and B-lines. As for looks... well that doesn't really matter to me, I'm in the backcountry and nobody will ever see me (or find my body!).
Here's a NS 160 Heritage on CL:

Fall is my favorite. Do some camping, it's not too hot, nice and cold at night for the fire.
I have a wood fire place, it will be used soon...luckily I don't have to do the cutting myself. 5 cords is a lot of wood.

I hated fall and winter when I lived in Kansas (but pretty much for the same reason I hated summer there too ... too much humidity makes temperatures feel worse than they are).
As much as I've come to enjoy winter, this spring, summer and fall felt way too short to me this year (I guess worry makes the time fly and it seems like all I've had is constant worry for the last couple years).
One more little worry ... the wife, dog and I are driving up to Frisco to spend the night ... hope Hoosier Pass is ok (that's really the only pass we'll go through that concerns me ... Wilkerson Pass requires a lot to make passage difficult).
Went over Berthoud Pass yesterday in a snow storm. Lots of new snow on the peaks.

wow! snow already. Summer really slipped away while I wasn't looking
Ah the days of laying under a truck and getting freezing cold water infused with copious amounts of mag chloride dripping on your face are soon upon us.
i love the winter but hate it at the same time. nothing makes you feel fully alive more than your boogers freezing and your farts trapped inside carharts haunting you for a good 5 minutes after the incident. [Tooth]

Yet you live in the mountains and that is the one major reason I dont move to the mountains because Im so sick and tired of winter.
I spent all last winter drilling in North Dakota, 5 miles south of the border NE of Minot, and it was the coldest winter I have ever experienced.

What tires are you looking for?
It was a bit cold on the bike this afternoon, but the crappy weather kept a lot of people indoors so the roads were mostly empty.
few accidents today on the roads. I went out on the atv...took a couple hours to feel my left index finger after that. didn't have the right gloves with me.
back at home now in my blanket with my laptop! that cold came waaaay too fast. I was hoping for more of a gradual decline in temp! only in colorado!
About 9" total snow today. Sun came out for awhile and took away half of it, but cloudy and heavy fog again. Round two maybe?

I love winter. But I do live in Aurora. I have two cords of wood stacked up in my shed, and some that I didn't quite get to out in the current rain (dang nab it!!!). That will get its own stack tomorrow in the shed and used around middle of winter when it has dried out a bit. I do need to get a fire going as it is 59 degrees in the house right now. Burr. But the Baileys and hot coco is helping cut the chill a bit. Gonna do peppermint schnapps with hot coco next.

Winter sucks anywhere...except maybe in the tropical zones. I'd rather live through winter in Bailey than the metro area any day.
It actually stays warmer up here during the really cold spells than it does in Denver. Frequently during the arctic cold snaps the cold air layer is too shallow to make it up this high.
I can't tell you the number of times I've left Bailey when it was sunny and 40-something only to get down to Denver where it's cloudy and 10 degrees.

Really pretty light this morning around 0700. Things looked almost black and white except for the changing aspens.
Thought these came out pretty good:
