View Full Version : Lets make a WTS/WTT template
Maybe if this is good enough it can become a sticky. Toss out your ideas, make your own template, or take what ideas have been put out there and we can make a template that can be followed for the for sale sections:
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________
Title:
include WTS/WTT (want to sell/want to trade) followed by a brief description of the item(s)
Description:
Description of item including condition, round count if a firearm, accessories added, and any other extra information you want to add.
Price: How much are you selling the item for. If it is a trade item, post the value of your item so people know what you think it is worth.
Location: Where are you located at and what areas are you willing to meet at.
trades: If trading, list what you are looking for. If you would consider trading, post that information here. If you don't want to trade and strictly want to sell, state that fact here.
Other information: Please put any other conditions of the sale or trade which could include whether you require a bill of sale, or transfer at a dealer, days you can or can't meet, if you are willing to ship the item and any other information you think people need to know.
Picture(s): A picture is worth a thousand words and will help you sell or trade your item much faster. If at all possible, post a picture.

HUGE +1 on this.
A template removes all excuses for omitting information or not meeting site requirements.

kind of my thought as well. At least then the template is there so people know what it should look like and what information they need to put in it.
It would be nice to have it as a permanent template that shows up in each new thread in the FS section.
This isn't directed at you sniper7 so don't take it as such. Do we really need to get our panties is such a bunch over the for sale section? I've noticed the trend on this site where everyone seems to be getting anal retentive over the FS section. Minimum post count requirements, constant bitching about what is or isn't in the ads, now a template? I feel like this is becoming the EE at arfcom.
I got a simple idea - if an ad doesn't have the required info, just ignore it. No one said you had to deal with someone who can't follow the simple rules. Just ignore the ad and move on. If the ad violation(s) are bad enough, the mods can just whack it. No explanations, no pms, no babysitting. Those that make an honest mistake will figure it out and correct things. Those that are clueless will go away when no one deals with them and/or their ads keep disappearing.
When I found this place it was a really friendly and laid back little corner of the web. It would be nice if stayed that way. I'd hate to see this place become arfcom or worse m4carbine. My 2 cents.

I could get rid of the TP and see if it returns to those much simpler days.

I see what you are saying, but at the same time, there are a lot more members now as well. that is a lot more work for the mods, and they have expressed this recently. As things grow, changes need to happen. The same shit happened before, but now it is soo constant from all the new guys it is too much of a hassle.
And as for ignoring them, that is fine and dandy unless you are interested in the item, want to know what the price is, want to know what the trade value is worth, where they are located, etc etc.
If the mods just up and delete the ad, most people will find themselves to the GD section where they will post and ask what happen. Most people are not going to be nice because it will be a daily occurrence. This will lead to unhappy new members who bail the site or get a foul taste and are bitter about it.
In the end, this is just an idea, the mods will decide what they want to do with it or can do with it. Most people that post in it already know and follow the rules but their input can help make the template better so there is less issues for newbies and mods alike.

I see what you did there! [Rant1]
IMHO, if we keep the ranting etc down, we are ok. I for once enjoy the competitive nature of the TP. Those who don't post picture or correct description won't get any offers but my low low ball one.
However, if we were to have a template and over complicate things, I suggest seller to put their phone # or email address too. I have sold many of things to those who aren't members here and found the site by searching the particular item through google.
I could get rid of the TP and see if it returns to those much simpler days.
It would be sad if it came to that. I think the TP ads a nice dimension to the site. I just think this desire to over-police it is starting to get out of hand. You cannot make an idiot proof system so don't try. My attitude is everyone has to read the rules before posting so the rules should be no surprise. If an ad doesn't meet the rules, just delete it. Those who make an honest mistake will figure it out and correct things. All the rest will eventually fade away and go back to craiglist or armslist. Easier for the mods and easier for the users.
A sticky thread that says 'If your ad keeps disappearing it's because you didn't follow the rules. Re-read the rules and try again.' will help with the 'Where did my post go?'

Agree with Mutt on this one.

Problem is the minimum post requirement has already relegated newbies to second class status until they reach some magic number. I've also noticed a trend of newbie dislike in some of the threads. We're already starting to cultivate an unfriendly environment.
As for people who would pitch a fit over their unfit ad getting whacked, that's what the ban hammer is for. We don't have to deal with the immature. The rules are posted so follow them. Stickies can be made to warn of disappearing ads so everyone understands.

The mods should close it whenever they get tired of babysitting. Or theres to much bitching. Would weed people out real quick. But hopefully not for to long

Everyone here was new once,(except maybe Thomas, just kidding:) alot of newbies are cool, some are not,the same could be said for members with higher post counts.I think the template idea sounds good, but will not make a diff
FTF only? Will you ship? Do you or are you willing to travel? I have missed more than one item I wanted because of the distance involved only to find out after the item has been spoken for the the seller travels to X at least once a week or something similar had it been stated in the OP would have been nice.
ETA: this whole newbie shit is stupid, glad they didn't up the post count required to use the TP. I have been a member of many other forums for years yet my post count is super low on all of them. The reason I joined this one was because I moved to CO. Hell it took me 5 years to hit 100 posts on AR15.com. Most of us are adults, let us use our own judgement on who we want to deal with. The "rules" on some of these forums are just getting out of hand, and for some reason it seems to be the gun boards that are the worst, too many thin skinned tough guys I guess.

You just got fed up faster than some of us. Now that we are at that same point, there is a little more support for a template.

Where was the support for a template when I suggested one?
When I first read your suggestion, I thought it was a GREAT idea but thought I'd better not give my concurring opinion since I was just a mere newbie with only a few hundred posts.
If the completed templates are not completed and riddled with blanks (lacking the required information), they could just be tossed into the crapper.

Maybe if this is good enough it can become a sticky. Toss out your ideas, make your own template, or take what ideas have been put out there and we can make a template that can be followed for the for sale sections:

Oh I'm not fed up. I couldn't care less about what happens in the trade section. I've just had to manage one much worse before, and that is the best answer. There is no magic bullet that will return the trade section too its days of glory, back when the site was tiny. A template will yield the most noticeable results though.

I am thinking the same thing. then people won't have a choice but to put the info and there is absolutely no excuse if they omit something. solves a lot of problems. sometimes you have to make things mindless I guess.
