All I get from that is that good training is exponentially more important than any piece of equipment. And we've all made our positions pretty clear on that subject...

Why dont they just put them in coveralls with the pistol underneath and then for added effect put boxing gloves on each subject?
How many of you don't check to make sure your carry won't hang up if needed. Each person is different and dresses differently but accordingly.
Make them look like incompetent fools and that makes all CCW holders look like untrained buffoons.
Proper belt, NO Giant baggy shirts and mechanic gloves....please CBS just please.
Also situational awareness and the WHAT IF game go along way before going somewhere in public.

lesson of the day: cheat to win.

In other new: You can loose a gun fight!

I like the cell phone suggestion, I wonder how the video would work out if they have a guy bust into a room, shoot the teacher, then try to shoot you. Your job is to pull out a cell phone, call the police and stay alive for 3-5 minutes and keeping every one else alive. If you fail, people who carry cell phones for safety are IDIOTS!

That's only proof that ABC can't be trusted to actually report news but instead makes the news to suit their political views.

Total hit-piece and good comments by everyone else in this thread.

My favorite part is how they put the person with the gun in the exact same seat every time. The 'shooter' entering the room clearly knew exactly which row and seat the carry person was in.

Silly.

Big repost.

SouthPaw, do you agree with the stance that CBS presented?

Just like John Lott said in his book " more guns less crime" if anything this video proves that having a uniformed police officer in the room is not safe.

the "shooter" knew where the student with the gun was .. he wastes no time shooting anyone other then the teacher and the student with the gun every time. in real life... the shooter would not know where the armed student was sitting... and he also would not likely to be a highly trained weapons instructor.

the editors can't hide the cheating by the directors of the videos.

Shows what happens in the real world.. not in a set up to fail environment.

I watched that special the night it aired, and it made me sick. I wanted to reach through the TV and slap the "investigative reporters" and have serious conversation with the police officers in the room - mainly to ask them why in hell they'd ever agree to take part (even though I know there are LEOs who look down on civilian concealed carry).

There were so many problems with that "study" that anyone who lives in our world can (and did) immediately call BULLSHIT. What we really need is an industry-supported rebuttal of that show and a challenge that would test military, police, trained, and untrained civilian "carriers" in a truly objective manner.

If there's anything we can take away from that (short-bus) special as armed citizens, it seems to be:

* Train as much as you can
* Practice often - dry and live fire
* Pay attention to your surroundings
* Have a plan, don't live in White
* If you have to fight, fight to win and get your head right

Sorry for soap-boxing... that show gets me going [Rant2]

you can't draw in time

you don't have the training

it will be taken and used against you

better to run, hide, play dead

even police can't win, and they are trained and far more capable than you will ever be

That was fair and balanced wasn't it?

I was really kind of amazed how one sided the video was. Who would not feel comfrontable with 10 minutes of training, a gigantic shirt, huge mechanic gloves and the "shooter" always knowing where you going to be. Seems pretty fair to me?

On a side note I did get a good laugh at the guy the keeps fidgeting around with the gun and tells the person next to him "I am going to tell you just because you are sitting next to me that I have a gun...." [LOL]

I do it all the time....when I get out in public and someone get close to me I just whisper those words then point to the buldge in my pants.....err side on my hip.

And this is why when you carry conceal you don't just carry the right firearm, but the proper equipment i.e: holster, belt, etc.

I think the training and muscle memory is a valid point they vaguely bring up in the video, but it's kinda hard to be objective myself because I have a lot of military training and experience shooting at the bad guys under stress. Stress fire training I think would be a great option at least for folks wanting to get a CCW. I wish we had some ranges out here for civilians that offered that kind of stuff, because stuff like this does become persishable

I'd like to see a do over with Travis Haley and Chris Costa in the room.

Let's see that one [Direct]

What kind of training are you looking for? There is a thread here (http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46729) about some training options.

How about they take a graduate of Front Sight in a RANDOM seat, and rerun the scenario. With the BG played by someone other than a police firearms/tactics instructor. But that wouldn't let them tell everyone that "guns 'r bad, mmmmmkay".

You know the first time I watched this stuff I thought.. perhaps.. someone who was totally new at carry, who failed to heed instruction on 'practice your clear and draw', 'practice practice practice' would behave in such a manner to struggle to get their firearm free..

Then after watching it again.. I did notice that they were seated in the same seat.. and after shooting the 'teacher' they immediately went to the ONE person in the room who could stop them.. I honestly would LOVE to see that played out with a person who has gone through more training, who is comfortable with carry and the 'shooter' doesn't know they are carrying or they are seated.. I don't care if it is a shooting instructor who is playing the 'shooter', because you never know if they could be former LE/Mil/Neo from The Matrix..

But I seriously 'doubt' in a real scenario.. they would know the exact location of the ONE person in the room who was armed..

I'm with Monky... I say the re-do that- and I don't care if it is a highly trained pro- I have the perfect guy to be the hidden armed citizen when the shooter comes in, he's a friend of mine who co-owns BluCore, former ST6 member, and very good and knowledgeable instructor, bet my bottom dollar he'd have the threat eliminated before they even knew there was a problem.

I personally choose where I sit at restraunts, parks, school, or any other public place for a reason.

As far as I am concerned I would rather someone underestimate my ability to perform in a scenario like that.

As do I.. my gf never understood it till I explained it to her. Then when she went to get her chp.. she started to do the same things. It was actually kind of cute.. her wanting to sit facing the door..
