Naive, and young.
I think I was a democrat when I was 8-10yrs old during elementary school, because it sounded good. When I got into Highschool, I knew democrats were ineffcient , liars, and sell pipe dreams.

someone should tell her that the emancipation proclamation was a republican idea .hummmm maybe someone should also tell her Lincoln was a republican . i dont understand how people can be so friking retarded , the info is out there for the taking and they still feel the need to be misinformed . its a simple fact that the republican party has done more for equal rights and civil liberties than the democrats in the history of America.

I remember the first time I explained to an Obama supporter that Democrats notoriously ban firearms and have been trying for years to get a national handgun ban.

This guy looked at me and said "no shit, are you serious?" To which I replied "yep." To which he then replied "fuck that shit, I'm voting for McCain."

While the majority of Democrats tend to be anti-gun, it just goes to show the ignorance of the 2008 election cycle... and then some.

not to mention that when reconstruction ended the crackdown on rights of black people, (KKK, poll taxes, segregation) as well as the opposition to the civil rights movement in the 60's was done by southern democrats.

and, gun control got a boost when blacks started arming themselves for self defense.

I have this video of this guy going around asking a bunch of liberal-looking young people about abortion.... after reasoning with them, getting them to admit stuff about their idea of the value of human life, and then completely contradicting themselves when they state their believes on abortion. The foolishness of being an "independent" or third party member is that you are shutting yourself even farther out of the process and reducing what little voice you already have.

I'm a Republican because I find them the least objectionable of the two major parties and I honestly believe there is a place for my voice there. I vote in primaries and I engage in caucuses because I want to have some say in who one of the two major party candidates are.

Independents and third party folk are simply cutting off their own noses to spite their own faces.

Just because I joined the Republican Party doesn't mean I have to agree 100% with the party leadership, nor does it mean I have to vote 100% in lock step with them.

Like it or not, for better or for worse we have a TWO PARTY system ... and you can either work within that system and try to influence one of the two parties, or you can stand on the sidelines and bitch (well there is another option, but I'm not going to mention that as I really don't need to end up on any more lists :p ).

reminds me of the little girl on an airplane joke:

A guy was seated next to a 10-year-old girl on an airplane. Being bored, he turned to the girl and said, "Let's talk. I've heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger."

The girl, who was reading a book, closed it slowly and said to the guy, "What would you like to talk about?"

Oh, I don't know," said the guy. "How about abortion?"

"OK," she said. "That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow and a deer all eat the same stuff... grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?"

The guy thought about it and said, "Hmmm, I have no idea."

To which the girl replied, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss killing unborn babies when you don't know shit?"

HA I go to CU, I am 20 years old and am majored in Sociology, Anthropology and Geology all of which attract liberal people into the major. You would be shocked at the amount of people who are conservative in Boulder. We were talking about demographic issues in America and how minorities are so mistreaded, have no wealth, are segregated within housing and enviromental etc blah blah blah. Well the teacher asked if we should give these people money and property to increase their wealth and put them on par with white people, basically welfare and gov checks to equalize the racially segregated with the segregators to end segregation and institutionalized racism (bunch of bull **** if you ask me) and 3/4 of the class objected and argued their points in very angry manners. The 1/4 that thought they should get these benefits did not fight back well, and seemed unsure (except for the monorities) it really changed my view on CU. All you hear about is liberal CU, Berkely etc but thats because they are obnoxious and very vocal. Made me happy because I often feel like a sore thumb wearing camo hats and dipping cope straight in class.

The biggest problem that the Dems and Reps have is they have both been infiltrated by liberals/progressives. The Dems got the more virulent, vocal form of the disease but the Reps got the more dangerous version which is more of a sleeper trojan.

very well put- the only other option that I'd put out there (that won't get you on a dangerous list) would be an organized movement towards independent affiliation- as a form of protest... I don't know how you could actually pull it off, but if you got a significant percentage to leave the 2 parties to show them that they're ticked, it would send a message... the cynic in me says that they wouldn't listen, anyway.

I almost changed my affiliation to independent, but remain Republican for now- because I want a voice in the primary. But I don't believe for one minute that anybody within either party that can get themselves elected should be allowed to do the job.

Zund, I have a slightly different take. I'm an independent so normally skip the primaries but I generally (about 98%) vote Republican as the lesser of evils in the general election. I'm independent because I don't want to be affiliated with either major party but there's almost no point in voting for an independent candidate who hasn't got a shot at winning; even when you THINK the lesser evil R/D candidate will win, you don't know for sure.

I remember a coworker once asking her grandfather how he could possibly have voted for Bill Clinton. Her grandfather looked at her and said, "I'm a Democrat and besides, none of us thought the SOB would actually win." Well, he won because of all the "protest" votes that went from Bush to Perot. No Perot in '92, no DA/DT, no Clinton gun ban, etc.

Think about what you're enabling when you vote Libertarian or Constitutionalist or whatever. Hickenlooper is governor because conservatives split their vote. We got Bennet in the Senate because Norton wasn't "conservative enough" and Buck was "too extreme." Independent conservatives need to wake the hell up.

I rest at night knowing I voted for the right candidate for the job. It looks like more people are willing to do this as of late and this is starting to cause people to take notice. After a few elections of this trend more people will be willing to 'waste' their vote on the right candidate. Voting for the 'lesser of two evils' serves only to perpetuate the system as it exists. I'll chime in with a 'me too'. I didn't vote for the lesser evil (McCain), I voted for someone who best represented me.

I boldfaced the part of this statement that I think is most important.

No vote is wasted and this idea that a conservative person MUST go with whatever weak horse the GOP imposes on conservatives isn't going to fly.
