When did our posts start getting censored for curse words? When I type S**t, my post ends up looking like ****.
Where's the fun in that? We're all adults here.
PS - rants are going to be lame now.

I think we should be able to view the forum in Spanish, like at the ATM,press 1. But really typing in a curse word isn't really as cool as saying it. I let my kid look at the site, because it is supose to be a family site. I think cursing will make the site look trashy. [Stooge]

Honestly this was the only forum I post on that uses vBullitin that didn't have the cuss word filter turned on.
The only downside is that sometimes it will mess with non cuss words.

Damn mods are taking away my first amendment rights to swear on a private message board.
CO-AR15 was one of two message boards that I post on that didn't have a language filter. I'm surprised it wasn't added a long time ago honestly.

Considering how rare the use of the term for a male chicken is used as a cuss word around here I'd recommend they just remove it from the list (like minor cuss words like damn and hell).
It's gonna be like watching Breakfast Club on TBS...

No, we are not all adults - this is a family-oriented site and always has been.
Even if we were all adults, many of our members feel compelled to behave and speak like a 16yo gang-banger wannabe.
I tried to warn folks here but while several members appreciated me providing the warning to the site others took it as a challenge to rachet the language up a notch.
Site profanity filter solves the problem and no one has to wash their mouths out with soap.
I like it personally. I am prone to typing out cuss words. People still get the point either way and the word doesn't have to be in text. no big deal IMO.
It really only hurts the rants, but again, you get the point and most people and figure out what is being said.
No one tells their 9 year-old to go browse a gun web forum. The ones that are old enough to have an interest in some of the threads are saying worse things to their friends already. Adding some astericks isn't going to accomplish anything that a minimal effort in parenting would.

It really wasn't that bad - the cussing. The Mr. Rogers types who love to bítch made it that way. Censorship...love it or else.

The Mods control this site and can make whatever rules they want. I agree 100% with that so don't take my below statement as a request to reverse the change.
I MUST point out some inconsistencies in your logic above.
You don't want us cussing on here because it is a family oriented site and we don't need our kids reading that language...oh and also because we're all adults and we shouldn't cuss like kids... Hum...
So are we trying to keep the kids away from adult language or the adults away from kid language...?

I try not to cuss around my kids or anybody else's. And I keep my language professional at work and appropriate in public. Sometimes we all get a little carried away on here and forget that this is a public place, I understand that. It's not a bad thing to try to clean it up, even if a little silly because you don't know if you are trying to keep the adults from acting like kids or the kids from acting like adults.
My OP was really only meant to inquire about the change so thanks for the reminder this is a public place. I will personally keep the curse words using $$ instead of ss to a minimum.

Thing is the cuss word filter here is set REAL HIGH. Ass, for example, is not on the list of words that is filtered.
Here's George Carlin's "7 Dirty Words";
****, Piss, ****, ****, Cocksucker, Mother****er, and Tits
Overall I think I can live with that level of censorship. (oddly enough the censor program missed the "****" in "cocksucker" ... that's weird ... the mods should remove that word from the list since its used here more to describe a mechanical function of a firearm more than it is to refer to male chickens or gentlemans' sausage).

Ouch, I just made a short post prior to reading this thread. I used the word
dam (only I ended that word with an N) and that entire word is still there intact. Maybe I'm just lucky or perhaps the Mods figure it's not worth the effort to fart around with one of the really ancient old guys..[Tooth].
