Guys, I posted this over in Mags, but I got a couple AK's but only one or two mags per gun. How many mags should I have per gun, and what kind are the best? I like the idea of plastic better than metal, but that's not well thought through.

Cost isn't a huge factor (unless you tell me I should buy 10 per gun!).

Ok i will not tell you anything. I might suggest you have 10 magazines per gun in your possession. I have been out shooting with folks that only have 1-2 mags, what a PITA that is. I now understand how some guns for sale are listed as 50 rounds fired:0

I run 5 mags on my AK, 2 plastic tapcos and 3 metal surplus, never had any problems with them, pretty much hit or miss with the tapcos, only thing I dont like about them is a increase of wobble on my m70, but they are a lot smoother when it come to doing fast mag swaps.

People tend to have negative thing to say about the polymer mags, but when my brother and I took his ak's out shooting for the first time, both of us preferred his polymer mags to his standard steel ones. It wasn't an issue of cleaning or needing oil, as he is a bit of a clean freak, but as far as form and function goes, as I said, we both preferred the polymer mags.

As far as my pistols go, I like to keep at least 4 mags for each one, so I would say at least that for your AK. ammunitiontogo.com usually has good deals on bulk orders.

YMMV.

I can't tell you how many you should have but I have a friend named "Jack" that bought a bunch of AK mags in bulk from Sportsman guide and they were coming 12 at a time in the mail. My friend has ak mags out the window. And never enough ammo to fill them. 75 rounders are the way to go BTW. the kind that open up in the back but if you get the Romanian one its nice too. Always shoot for under a $100 on those. $10 -$15 for the 30 rounder and $15 - $20 for the $40 round mags.
That is what happened to my friend. There is a whole box under a table that don't get used and just collects dust.

I recently got a couple of These (http://www.cdnninvestments.com/ak7640clsmma.html) and really like them. I had never met a poly AK mag I actually liked until these.

Go with the Tapco polymers, I have 10 of them for my AK, and never had a problem with any of them. Here is a link to the compay I get them from for $6.99ea for BLACK, and $9.44 for Colors. Shipping cost is the best part, $6.50 flat rate shipping (Free shipping if you spend over $150). They ship fast and are a pleasure to deal with

So far I have six 30rnd and two 20rnd mag for my wasr 10. All but one is metal surplus. I do have a 47 round plastic. I don't count it as it is a POS and no matter how much i file it I can't get it to fit. The one plastic 30rnd I have I had to file down to get it to fit. So far I definately prefer the metal surplus. I plan on buying about four more 30rnd mags and maybe one more 20rnd mag.

Went to the gun shop on Colfax and Car once. They had some surplus 30 rd AK mags and this was still during the ban. But they wanted $25 a piece for them. This just 2 days after I bought an AR from him too.
Needless to say I bought 4 mags from CTD when they were cheaper than dirt and never went back for anything serious again.
He can sell it for what people will pay but he didn't need to take advantage of my ignorance like that.

They might have changed since then?
