So I deposited a $100 check in the drive thru ATM, the Chase ATM showed the check and amount and said it deposited, now they dont show any record of it and I am out $100!!!! [Rant1]I will be switching banks this week those sorry SOB's. Man I am pissed.
The skinny on the check:
A co worker found an open UPS box at an vacant house that use to be a custom machine business I guess. The box had 2 rem 700 bolts in it. (I guess the business is in Rifle now? I sent the box back to PA to the owner and he sent me a check as a thank you (a custom rifle builder). I didnt ask for anything in return for returning his stuff so it was like a gift so I cannot now call him and ask him to put a stop payment on the check and send me another one.
So I am just pissed and screwed [Bang]

Don't you have a receipt?
Isn't the actual check INSIDE THE MACHINE?
For $100 I'd be down there raising a little cain.
1st bank colorado owned no out of state interests.

Exactly. I use USAA, my checking account there has a better interest rate than my old Chase savings account.

I never get the reciept cause it shows it reads the amount and everything on the screen so I "assumed" it was good. I havent had a problem in the past.
Aparently Loomis does their drive up ATM's and when the bank called them they said they didnt have it. So their is an endorsed check floating in someones pocket I guess.
I have 1 check out for a credit check for a home loan, as soon as it goes through I am closing my account out of principle.

They have record of it. If you completed the deposit and got the confirmation on screen afterwards (always print receipt with image for check deposits!), they DO have record of it. Those machines don't just 'lose' stuff like that. I would assume they somehow lost the physical check and that is why the bastards are putting it back on you. But like I said... I'm sure they have record of the ATM transaction.
If you have online banking with them, did it ever show a pending deposit line item for the check? Mine usually appear within minutes of feeding the ATM.
While I understand your predicament of not wanting to put out the guy who was generous enough to show his gratitude to you by sending you the check, I would want to know if my money didn't end up where I intended it to go regardless of how much it put me out.
If it were me, I would contact him and explain the situation. He may or may not be compelled to send you another, but I would think he would look into it enough to see whether it has been cashed... which might help you in tracking it down. Maybe ask him for the check number so that you can pass it along to Chase?
And yeah, local and credit unions are definitely the way to go. I would have ditched Chase long ago, but the bastards have my mortgage and keeping a checking account with them is the easiest way to pay it.

Pretty much the same. I do have a checking account with a Colorado specific bank that I am using more and more.
H.
A friend of mine had problems with them too. Stopped a down payment on a car because she'd never deposited that much money before.

Yes they did have a record of it after all. All it took was a little yelling in the branch to get it straightened out.

Chase is garbage.
I wrote a really long rant about my experience with them, but decided to keep that stuff to myself.
complete garbage bank.
I use USAA now, much better customer service. I wish they had a branch closer...kinda a pain in the ass to drive from midway to Northern COS.

waaaaaay back in the day I had a tile crew... was contracting through a large local flooring company.
was with BOTH for years... never an issue until one day they decided to but a 90 day hold on a check caused my payroll to bounce, caused 2 commercial accounts to be closed and about 150 points on my credit score.
its always... colorful when the salesmen approach me and try the "Come to our bank, its better!"
1st national bank is a good bank. If that would have happened we would have taken care of you.
My wife was a WM customer since 2000, and automatically became JP Morgan Chase customer.
After their free checking disappeared, we moved to US Bank early this year.

Chase sucks giant Moose testicles. I'm looking to jump ship. Last month I had $450 in my account the day before payday, which is electronically deposited. I wrote 3 checks that had yet to clear. 1) $450 2)$25 3) $50 (the last 2 were for my kids school so there were small). They all came in on the day before my electronic deposit but Chase could have cashed the $25 and the $50 then changed me the $34 overdraw fee, but NOOOOOOO, they cash the $450 FIRST and bounce the next 2. F**KERS!!!
