My Aunt's boyfriend is the care taker of the Budweiser Clydesdales and he gave us a private tour of them the other day. We not only got to see them but also play with them! These are massive creatures weighing in at 2300lbs. These really are gentle giants.

Most of the pictures are of the smallest one but he still weighed 2100lbs

The pictures don't do them justice. They are bigger in real life.

They used to get them rigged up for the 4th of July parade in front of the house I lived in when I was 3-5 years old. I remember being absolutely amazed at the size of those horses.

That would be flipping awesome to get a private tour of them.
After the 9-11-01 video, I have a lot of respect for them and
have liked the Clydesdales that much more. Thanks for sharing!![Beer]

Heres another one. This pic does a better job of showing their size. And of course this was in the beginning when my daughter was scared to death of them. She warmed up in the end though....

When I was in the hospital in '98 in Denver, the Clydesdales made an appearance and I got to go see them. I'll never forget that. The only bigger horse I've seen are the Belgians the Amish back home uses.

Man, those Clydesdales are gorgeous!

they are by far the most spoiled horses out there. There really is unlimited $$$$ for them so they better health care and treatment than my family does. One of them had surgery for bone spurs in his leg awhile back. How many people do you know that have bone spurs and just live with it???

Jim the caretaker spends some time in St. Louis and I believe that is were their breeding program is based as well. They are starting to home breed their horses now although they still get some from Ireland or Scotland. I can't remember.

The tallest one there was 6'6" at its back and he weighed 2300lbs. There muscle tone and definition was incredible and you can see their raw power. I just received a couple of their horse shoes today. They are friggin huge!!

6'6"? Damn, that's what, 19 hands or so? Damn! The one in the OP's pics looks to be almost as big... maybe 17-18 hands.

And yeah, often times prize horses live better than most of us do. My ex worked for a horse trainer/breeder who at the time had a fresh colt that they treated like royalty cause of his bloodline... the mare had brought in something like $140k, and the sire (the stud) was worth like twice that. You can imagine how well they were cared for.

I think he said that horse was 19 1/2 hand. He was the tallest but he was a little more slender. Most of the horses were probably 18-19 hand and weighed about 2200-2300lbs

The first pictures were of the smallest of the horses. He showed me a picture of the stud they use for breeding and it was a picture of him rearing up on his hind legs cause they just brought in a mare and he got all excited.

He also said when they are in the pasture he will whistle at them and they all come running and it sounds like a earthquake coming at you!!!
