View Full Version : Ordered a Palmetto State Armory upper
Never tried any of their stuff but it looked good enough for the price. Have a few lowers that don't have any uppers on them so thought I would order one and try it out. Will update when it arrives and again after I put some rounds through it.

Surprised you didn't go with their dissipator.
Surprised you didn't go with their dissipator.
Damn near did. [Coffee]
That project is on hold for just a little bit. I don't have it all figured out just yet. I did see that mid-length dissipator they offer and it was very tempting.
Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Their specs sound pretty solid so I'm looking forward to some input. [Beer]

I have one of their lowers as well. Interested in your results. [Beer]

I will update this post after it arrives with my initial impressions of the product as well as how long it took to get it. Will also give a reliability and accuracy report after I get it out to sight it in.

I'm interested to see how long it takes you to get it, and what you think of it.
Gonna be ordering from them soon, and knowing what I'm getting is always good.
Did you go with their BCG too?
Sweet! Cant wait to hear your report. Ive been debating on an upper from them for a beater rifle.
Did you go with their BCG too?
Sorry. Not going to run their BCG in this one. I have a brand spanking new BCM one that needs a home.

I ordered one of their dissipator uppers (with the mid-length gas system) last week. This will be my first AR, so fingers crossed in regard to quality....

Let me know how you like the dissipator set up please. I was planning one getting one soon. Thanks.

Will do.
I have an update already. Got an email saying it shipped today (or is at least scheduled to ship?) and has an estimated arrival date of October 21st. So, according to PSA,it should get here by this Friday. If so, that is pretty quick. The last barrel I ordered from Del-Ton was in stock and ready to ship and it still took twelve days for me to get it.
We shall see. Will update when it arrives.

Just read about some problems with the PSA uppers.
Make sure to check the gas block screws, have herd a few complains about the gas blocks leaking, just a heads up.

Mine won't have any screws in the gas block. It will have a standard "f" marked front sight base that is held in place with standard tapered pins.
Plus, seems like if I had the issue they were having, I would have just put a little loc-tite on the gas block screws and tightened them down and been done with it. No need to waste my time trying to contact PSA about it. Guess I'm just weird that way.
Oh, and thanks for the heads-up by the way. [Awesom]

i ordered my bcm and recieved it in 5 days
Update. Looks like it hasn't shipped yet. I guess the e-mail I got was just one of those things where "a shipping label has been created for your package". Will keep updating as things go.
Ugh, I hate it when companies do that. Just let me know when I can expect the damn thing!!
Well, looks like the UPS status has changed from "shipping label created" to "in transit". Also says it should arrive in three business days. But it doesn't give me the typical tracking information telling me where it is. It also says the status could show "in transit" all the way up until it is delivered.
We shall see. [Dunno]

I still haven't received an "in transit" notice, but I did hear from a guy named Colt Driver (what a name) today, and he told my order was delayed because they're waiting on a batch of bcgs. Possible ship date of Thursday. Here's hopin'.

That kind of sucks. Even if it ships Thursday, it will probably be next Tuesday or Wednesday before you see it. Glad I didn't order mine with the BCG.
Well, looks like it is sitting in Commerce City at this moment. That means it should get dropped off at my house tomorrow. I will have to drive down to Bowers on Thursday or Friday and pick up a Gunfighter charging handle to finish it off. Will keep everyone posted.

I'm jealous.....might be awhile before I get my upper.
Well, it showed up today. Eleven days from the day I ordered it to the day it arrived at my house. To be fair, they said to allow seven days for them to assemble it before it would ship. To also be fair, I ordered it late in the day on a Saturday and suspect they didn't even see or process the order until the following Monday. So, looking at it like that, it actually took nine days from the time I ordered it until it arrived.
My initial impression is that it is a pretty nice piece for what you pay. The finish is about what you would expect on something of this sort. The chrome lining looks to be very well done just eyeballing it. Everything seems to be assembled correctly. There is a small PSA logo laser engraved on the left side of the receiver and has the "T" markings like most do nowadays. The upper has the "splintered "A" casting mark. It came with the fat "M4" style handguards. The barrel is marked "5.56 NATO 1/7 CL PALMETTO".
Here are a few pictures. I replaced the handguards that came on it with a set of Cavalry Arms C8 handguards because I don't like the M4 style ones. I still need to pick up a charging handle for it. I guess I could have pulled one from one of my other rifles for the pictures but I didn't think about it. I will give an update after I get it sighted in as far as accuracy and reliability are concerned.

My upper STILL hasn't shipped. I guess the lesson here is that if you're ordering an upper from PSA, get your BCG elsewhere....
Is that what the hold up is all about?

I contacted them earlier this week and they said my order is being held up because they're waiting on a shipment of BCGs. I placed the order on the 10th, so.....
Yeah, hopefully it'll arrive in time for Christmas [Bang]
I have never ordered an upper, but I bought a lower and a bbunch of other stuff in several other orders and they are never fast at shipping. The quality has been great, but always on the slow side.

I bought some 6.8 magazines from them awhile back, the shipping was fairly quick since they were in stock, but still not as fast as Midwayusa.

Coming up on a month since I placed my order, and it still hasn't shipped. Buyer beware.....even though they recently updated their website to say that uppers will ship within 15 days instead of 7, its still complete BS. They're just like all the other shops who say it'll ship when it ships and don't give you a time frame. What bothers me is that they're not up front about it. Their customer service department keeps giving me excuses, but I don't want excuses, I want my upper [Rant1]

Looks like I'll order from del ton then... Atleast you can talk to a real person and get a real estimate of how long it'll take to ship.

Wow, I've ordered two uppers from them so far and both came in under the time frame.

I guess I got lucky on mine. Hope when yours finally arrives you are at least happy with the product itself in spite of the service.

Yeah, hopefully it'll be worth the wait. Truth be told, however, I'm just whining cuz it'll be my first AR, and now that I've paid for the damn thing, I can't wait to slap it on my Spikes lower and go shoot it. I'm literally at "little kid before Christmas" levels of anticipation....
I much rather prefer to pick stuff up local if possible. I hate waiting on stuff to come to me. Too impatient I guess. [Coffee]
Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I can get out to the range this weekend or next and sight it in and get back with a "range report".

Just heard back from PSA....apparently they've got bcg's in stock, but now my order has been delayed further because they don't have rifle length handguards for the dissy uppers. Still no estimate on when it'll ship.
Dude...freakin' cancel.[Rant1]

Thinking about it....just have to decide if I want to pay the restocking fee. Paying them $50 to jerk me around for a month is kind of a hard pill to swallow....

I know, right? I have to admit, however, that its a pretty good way of dissuading people from canceling their orders when things go awry.
Not a great way to get repeat business, but that doesn't seem like a high priority for these guys.
Damn, that is steep! I'd put the full-court press on & let them know one way or the other you'll be sharing your experience with a very active shooting community.

Well they won't be getting my business at all. I'm going Del-Ton, atleast they have LIVE customer service on their sight during the day every day, and they give you real estimates of when the order ships.

They seem to be a great company, can't vouch for the quality yet, but I've heard nothing but good about them. They say up front it can take 3-4 weeks to ship, but usually if they've got everything in stock people have gotten their orders within a few days.
Re-stocking fee? WTF? I would call them on that one. WTF are tehy going to re-stock? It's not like they sent it to you and you sent it back. I would demand they cancel your order and I would tell them you will not pay a restocking fee for something they haven't even shipped you.
On a side note, I have ordered a barrel from Del-Ton in the past. Shipping took a little longer than my order from PSA. The quality was decent but nothing to brag about. Accuracy was OK but nothing special. It was a perfectly serviceable barrel for a very good price.

I was able to clarify that on their website. In the "terms of use" section they actually call it a "processing" fee, so its for restocking and processing the credit to my card. Since they have it listed on their site (cancel an order, get charged 10%), I guess I pretty much agreed to those terms when I completed the transaction online.
So yeah....lesson learned. Definitely going to do my homework next time.

Bcm or spikes is the way to go del-ton seems to be garbage I waited 3 months before canceling my order and I was gona go psa but decided not to due to questionable quality I ended up with a bcm carbine in 5 days and I now have about 700 rounds some of witch with the slide fire stock and it works beautifully
I will add that I ordered a complete upper from BCM this week and they shipped the same day. Can't beat that kind of service.

I am perfectly aware of the quality of parts and service from BCM. Everything I have ordered from them has arrived in less than a week.
The purpose of this thread was not to say how awesome PSA stuff was or how great their service is. I wanted a 16" mid-length for this particular rifle and BCM never had them in stock. This was a "budget" build and I didn't want to spend the kind of money they wanted for their hammer forged barrels so I thought I would try out the PSA stuff and report my experiences.
Seems that my experience with dealing with PSA was good but maybe I just got lucky? Anyhow, if I get the time to head to the range to sight it in I will report back.
