I recently purchased a Henry U.S. Survival .22 rifle at Gander Mountain for $229.00. This is the same Stoner designed, Armalite AR-7 that Charter Arms sold for years. I'm really happy with it as a pack rifle and pleased that Henry really did make some improvements, such as it now holds three loaded 8 rd magazines in the butt stock. I had heard that they were really finicky on which ammo would feed. With this in mind, I loaded three magazines with CCI mini mag, CCI Blazer, and Federal Premium. Both CCI rounds fed flawlessly, but the Federal Premium stovepipe jammed on the first five rounds. I have not fired anything else but CCI mini mags since, with zero problems.

I really enjoy mine. Just break in the gun and it will be a bit less picky

That would make a great Father's Day gift for myself. Now to let the kids know. [Coffee]

I picked mine up here on the board. I have put around 3-400 through it so far. I love it! Only ammo that I have used was Remington bulk stuff from wally world.

I have a horrible looking 25+ yr. old charter arms (worst make) that was boat gun (salt water). It looks like complete hell and is no tack driver, has two cracks in the stock with JB weld holding it together, but it's my kids favorite gun to shoot. Light weight enough for him easily handle. In fact, he did pretty well with it today.

Wish I hadn't've seen this (http://vimeo.com/18335550).

Dude was like 25-30sec to acquisition.

Looks like about 25 seconds from deciding to assemble to firing. Not bad.

I had one back in the early to mid 80's, it was a jam-o-matic and the sights were very crude. I could barely hit a rabbit size target at about 75 ft. also the grip area was a bit too thick.
Anyone know if they improved the function, fit and sights since then ?

Some of the time was saved by having his finger on the trigger once it was loaded pointing in the air...

When I bought mine last year, they were a little harder to find. Now, all the Colo Springs Wal-Marts have them for $220 in stock.

Guess I got in good. Always wanted one, since I was a kid. Glad I had the good fortune to wait until they were Henry manufactured, and several years ago, you could still find them consistently well under $200.

It's a fun little rifle to shoot, and the sights aren't bad for what the rifle is, though, I too, find the stock a little thick, though it's not unmanageable.

As far as performance, I have run Federal bulk, Remington Golden Bullet bulk, Winchester Wildcat, and CCI Mini-Mag through it, and have had zero performance issues. Have even been able to find "hi-cap" (12rd) mags for it at various gun shows.

I've only had one that was new. It took about 500 rounds before it started shooting without failures. These are fun guns.

I have had no problems with my Charter Arms rifle. I bought it used from the Foothills Shooting Center on March 20, 1988 for $89.97 with 2 mags and a hundred rounds of ammo. They let me put a mag through it to make sure it worked before I bought it.
