With my work schedule the wife and I see each other in passing for the most part and today I found out I've got Sunday and Monday off.

So we are thinking about driving down to Denver Sat night, finding a nice hotel & going out for a while in the "big" city [Tooth][Tooth]

Other than Shotgun Willie's (where the wife says she might be willing to go) what else is available to do on short notice in Denver and do ya have any good hotel recommendations?

Anyplace you can recommend for a nice Sunday breakfast, some kind of buffet or something along those lines that's not a suit and tie place?

Thanks!!

Joey, good plan, bring the wife down and spend quality time!
Good hotel, downtown Marriot, I liked it. Dinner, if you have the money Elway's, one of the best steakhouses in the country (if you don't include Texas). As for nightlife, it really depends on what you're looking for, do you want a bar, club, lounge? What style are you into, western, electronic, rock n roll, sports? I can give you plenty of suggestions in each area just because I'm a diverse and very open person and I've been to the best and worst of each.

Breakfast= Bistro Vendome http://bistrovendome.com/

It's on Larimer Square, between 14th and 15th on Larimer street. Excellent food with a cool French bistro feel. Not a buffet, but awesome food.

For hotels, I like Hotel Monaco or The Curtis. They're both nicer hotels, with a little bit of a boutique feel.

Neither of those things are close to Shotgun's, but that's not in downtown anyways [Coffee]

I'm a fan of the Brazilian restaurants: Rodizio, or especially Fogo de Chao. I could eat till I rolled out of there.

Rodizio is the sh%!... Love it!

Graves, you sure don't like Denver, not all that money goes to the dumb anti-gun bureaucracy. There are some really good places in Denver.

A good and somewhat cheap form of entertainment if you like improve comedy is the Impulse Theater under the Wynkoop Brewery (http://www.impulsetheater.com/?gclid=CJXNsbih9asCFQpo5QodwBqXIw). It has a 2 drink minimum (does not need to be alcohol) but you can get Wynkoop beer so you are covered there. Good food at the Wynkoop if you are looking for casual then just walk downstairs. Another option I am doing the with the better half in a couple weeks, but going to Comedy Works on Larimer and staying at the Westin downtown (quality unknown, they were the cheapest on short notice).

I haven't been lucky enough to eat there yet... I've heard it's so awesome but a little pricey.

I was going to suggest the Mon Chalet then I saw you were from WY and may not get the "joke" and actually bring your wife (without knowing what it is)

Joe, you're terrible! [LOL]

Joey, don't go to Mon Chalet... just don't. Another good place, and really if you badly want to go to someplace like Shotgun Willy's there are better joints in town for that! PT's used to be good (haven't been in a few years).

Bars/lounges to check out if you want some libations, Wicked Gardens, Monarch Lounge, Fado's Irish Pub, The Tavern (on Market and 20th), and the always good for the cowboy in you: The Stampede in Parker.

Our weekends in Denver usually consist of a sporting event of some sort, Rodizio's, The Sports Column, and Hotel Monaco.

Great ideas, a real Irish Pub would be sweet, have not been to one in many years, we are looking for casual, not real fancy this trip as it's on such short notice.

Sort of want to get away from the entire cowboy thing for a night.

+1 for Fado's for an Irish place. Everyone is all crazy about the Tilted Kilt these days, but I think it's kinda sucky. Girls in school girl outfits, while awesome, don't make up for bad attitudes and ****ty service

I know! Finally someone agrees on that. My friend always wants to go to the Kilt and I just whine so much to him... "Really? Yeah they're hot, but they suck, and they're so stuck up!"

Where's Denver?

Kinda the middle of the state, that frightening place you tell your kids never to go to... the one that contains those evil and scary monsters called "Liberals." You know, the place, right?

Well, I would highly recommend the Magnolia Hotel at 17th & Stout. I designed the bar - Harry's and room prototype (1120 I think). It is a great place to stay and they have guest happy hour and cookies/milk at night/ breakfast in the morning included. Sambuca (Cuban) for dinner. You should get a great rate for Sun/Mon.

For nights out we go to Indian Springs
Ameristar in BlackHawk
Glennwood springs
Steamboat
Mt Princeton
Never Denver.

Not in Denver proper, but for a dinner you and your wife won't soon forget, make reservations at "the Fort" down in Morrison, Highway 285 & SH 8.
They used to have night helicopter flights to see the night sky of Denver, but I don't know if they still do.
And as far as hotels , anywhere but downtown Denver or east Colfax.
If you have a concealed carry permit, please pack iron if you go to LoDo.

Thanks all!!!

Fado's looks great, not sure about what hotel, just depends on who has a open room for Sat night & the location.

Have eaten at The Fort and it was really good, not quite as good as expected, but it was quite tasty. Also like eating at the buckhorn exchange but just want something besides steak and taters.

The Mrs wants to find a Sunday Brunch of some kind...The Inverness has some rooms, but it seems fancier than what we are looking for.

Since CO recognized WY permits I always carry when in Denver or Colorado for that mater, better to have and not need than need and not have...Just don't like the hi cap mag ban even if it does not pertain to visitors.

Oh and we looked at Mon Chalet, the wife likes the idea of a in room whirlpool...never thought of that before, but it would be great to kick back & soak in the room.....now need to see if we can find another hotel that offers in room whirlpools..

Question, how is "The Curtis" Doubletree hotel, HH6 likes how close it is to 16th street, nightlife, shopping & such..
