Originally posted this in the General Discussion forum.. that was an obvious mistake. So we'll try this here.
All,
SO while delivering some donated items to the Elementary school my Autistic son use to attend, I was talking with the Special Ed Coordinator about what else they might need and she noted that they have a family of 7 who have 2 autistic children. Apparently the father has been unemployed for a while and they are struggling pretty hard these days. I've also been told that clothing would be very helpful as well.
The Special Ed Coordinator said they are in the system to attempt to get the help they need to provide for their special needs children, but it is a very long (often 2 or more years.)
So My idea is this.. lets pull a shoot together and see what we can gather to help out some kids. Previously the community has been very very kind and giving. I'm hoping we can show again just how much we more fortunate folks can do to help those who are truly in need.
What We Need:
Staples like pasta, potatoes, vegetables, cereal, etc. This Mom cooks so she appreciates flour, sugar and other baking its as well.
Clothing for the boys are sizes 7 through 13. The 2 girls are a girls size 4 and junior size 1.
Tentative Plan
1. Determine Shoot Site.. South Site seems easier for most, but I'm very open to where. Hell if someone has some land in the Denver area, that would be most ideal.
2. Identify and define 2-3 basic skills drills that are of interest to the group. Set up lanes for teaching and practicing those skills.
3. Gear swap... I wasn't able to make it to the last club gear swap, but thought that might be another incentive to gather. Pretty sure we'd have to have a no actual firearms sales because of the gun show rules/laws. But we all have plenty of stuff that needs a new home right?
4. I'll be reaching out to stores like Bowers and such to see if they'd be cool with a donation box for non-perishable food donations.
SO being that I'm unemployed at the moment, I am available any time to do this. I understand that you working stiffs have other things going on as well, so lets start rolling around dates and see what we come up with. I'm even open to running this event twice for those who can't make a mid week or weekend trip to what ever site we get.
Tentative first Dates:
Wednesday November 2nd
Saturday November 5th
Location TBD
Skills Lanes:
1 . AR-15 Iron Sights - How to adjust and set Battle Sight Zero (BSZ) and 25m sight in.
2. Standing, Kneeling and Prone use of the AR platform
3. Weapons transitions..
4. Gear evaluations, uses and recommendations - AR centric
Those are all suggestions and if any of you high speed instructor like folk want to donate your time and efforts, please let me know.
If there isn't enough response to warrant the effort here, I'll figure out another way to get some help out to these folks. Just hope we can all give a little for those who need it.
