View Full Version : What do the ladies in your life shoot

We're talking firearms people!

The wife is getting more interested in guns the more current events progress. I've read all the articles about ladies and getting them interested with the right firearms . Finally got the wife and all the kids out shooting as one family unit (which I've been trying to do for 5 yrs now). Brought all modern arms for an operational instruction and test fire. Went pretty well; after session was over the wife actually said "we should probably do this every month." What a dream come true.

I have the rifle angle covered but my question is more "what handguns do your gals shoot?"

Paper.

She's used just about everything I have here and she don't have a problem with any of it (including 300wm) but she's partial to 9x19.

I think sometimes my wife would like to shoot me. [Coffee]

Seriously, I tried getting her into shooting but it is just not her thing. She did the best with a Ruger GP100 when I loaded it with 38's. She didn't like it with 357's though. She actually shot it better than the couple of rim-fire handguns I had her shoot (a Browning Buckmark and a Taurus revolver). Never got around to letting her shoot any of my auto pistols. Like I said, she just didn't get into it. Wasn't her thing.

CZ 75 P07 in .40. She adores that thing. Next up she wants a 12ga shotgun.

We've put on several women only classes and it seems like the M&P 9mm is always the most popular. Its what my wife and daughters also seem to like to shoot the most. Though go figure my 13 year old prefers the 1911.
Oldest carries a M&P compact.

My fiance shoots my XD9SC for now. She's shot a .38 revolver, 30-06, a 12ga, a 20ga, a .45, a Glock 19, an AK47, and a couple .22 pisols. She likes the .22's the most. I have to do some research on a smaller pistol, good for ccw (she wants to get her CHP sometime in the future), but something a bit stronger than a .22. I'm thinking I might get her a Sig P238 eventually. She liked the 20ga shotgun better than the 12ga, so I'm leaning on getting a 20ga for home defense instead of the 12ga.

XD9 tactical. We used to shoot together at the steel challenge weekly matches. She never got very good, but she's plenty good enough at inside-the-home distances to take care of herself.

My wife shoots her mouth off at least twice daily (www.instantrimshot.com (http://www.instantrimshot.com)). As far as weapons she has shot everything, shotguns, rifles and pistols from my little S&W 422 all the way up to the S&W 500. She was not a fan of the 500

My wife carries a Ruger LCP w/crimson trace. I got her a lady rossi 38. spl but she didn't like the grip on it, she liked the Ruger a lot more. We got her an OWB holster so she carries it openly sometimes.

We shoot about once a week, generally 10-15 yard stress fire for self defence training. She's gotten pretty accurate, just a little slow to draw.

She doesn't like my other guns lol

This is my rifle, this is my gun...

Wife loved her g30, but carries a p238 (easier to ccw at her work), she wants a new sig 1911 and she loves 45acp in anything. Oh and she adores any ar15.

Wow, thanks for the great response. The wife is pretty recoil sensitive, she didn't care for the ultralite 38, the polymer 9 cz was marginally better. Thinking what ever direction we go, it'll probably be steel. On the rifle side, she of coarse loves the 22's, did pretty good with the AR and AK, even enjoyed a little rapid fire to my surprise. She dislikes 12 .ga pump, even with light loads, and so maybe a 20 or 410 in an automatic. Of coarse the magnum hunting calibers are out of the question.
Thanks for the input.

I just bought my wife a stainless FNP 40. It's nicer than any pistol I own, but that's the way it should be if you ask me. She hasn't shot it yet, but I'll take her very soon.

My wife had never shot a gun til we got married
now she's as big of a gun nut as I am.

Size is more important than recoil and thin is MUCH easier for little hands than big. She can (and has) carried a full size 1911 and she shoots it quite well.

Currently she accessorizes with either an LCP (when she's feeling lazy) a P238 or a Colt Defender (micro 1911) but she has lots to choose from.

In shotguns fit is so important that you just figure you'll have to get it fitted to them. She's quite good at a shotgun, but it's a mighty short LOP.

AR's, M14's, 12ga, 28ga, glocks, 1911's, everything and nothing, you name she pretty much likes it.

Bought the wife a Ruger SP101, she likes shooting .38spl., .357 not so much. She likes it because its small and it fits her hand, easy to load, and all she has to do is aim and shoot. I did put some Pachmyer grips on it,and it helps dampen the recoil.

My wife started shooting with a single shot marlin .22 rifle. Then she shot my Ruger 357 blackhawk with 38s. Then did the 357 loads. She has shot my 44 super blackhawk - did not like the recoil! She likes her g17 best. She has shot all my rifles except the 308 - not interested due to recoil. She also likes her Stag AR. She is an excellent shot - much better than me, so I'm a good boy and don't misbehave [ROFL1]

First gun I bought my wife was a stainless USP40c that she saw at a gun store and really liked. Next was a savage .270 that she hates shooting. When I got my garand she fell in love with it so I bought her one of her own. Earlier this year she saw a SCAR at a store and said if the color wasn't so ugly (fde) she'd want one. Made the mistake of telling her they come in black, now she has one.

My 16 year old daughter shoots a Glock 17.
My wife shoots a commander sized 1911. The wife isn't much into follow up shots, so she went big.

The female unit will shoot anything I have if I beg her enough, but the only gun she wants to shoot (and keeps ready to roll around the house) is a Savage .20 double. She's pretty gifted using it, too. Gifted enough that I always make a point to say 'hello' to the cat a few times if I come home late and she is in bed.

The last girl I was with loved .223/5.56 caliber in an AR-15. She didn't care to much for the 7.62x39 in an AK-47. Of course she was a fan of .22 rifles/handguns. She also loved the look of my stainless GP100 .357 but didn't care to shoot it that much

Actually she prefers S&W revolvers and when we used to compete in IHMSA, her 7mm Int XP100. And HER 28 ga SXS.

Too loud.
Gunpowder smells bad.

She regularly shoots her Canon Rebel. She takes very nice photographs [Flower]

My wife will shoot anything you put in her hand. She love the 454 Casull which kind of scares me. I shot the thing with some really hot hand loads and it made me bleed through a glove, she had no gloves on and it just made her smile. If I can find the video I will post it, it is great watching her trying to shoot a gun that is almost as big as she is and loving it. Every time she pulled the trigger it almost looked like she was going to lose it.

The wife prefers the .223 410 and her Makarov or a P85 ruger. She does shoot the Fal and PSL to maintain the knowledge of them but after the accident in 02 it is only a few rounds a year do to the twisting.

Mine shoots pistolas so good I am afraid to leave one out for her (case I am on the bad list). However in a home sit, I carry the AR she shoots the pistol. Anyone breaking in God help you she is deadly at 40 yards with a 45.

SP101 usually with 38's. Picked up an SR9C for her because she felt bad with only 5 rounds at the range and the other ladies were shooting semi-autos.

Recently took her to shoot the SR9c for the first time, 9mm worked out well for her, she is recoil sensitive. She didn't like the LCR in 38, too light and too much pain. :)

I've tried getting mine into shooting but not much luck yet. She has come with me a few times and shot some .22s, GLock 17, and my Ruger Sec-6 with .38s. Almost afraid if she does get into it. She shot pretty damn well and is about as competitive as I am (which is a lot).

My lady shot my XD9sc a few weeks back and had a good time. It was the first time that she'd shot anything. I need to get a dedicated .22 pistol to get her really into it and then we can start talking about a CCW and appropriate handgun.

Same for my wife. Small enough to conceal well and for her to grip(she loves the Pachmyer grips), enough weight and mass that recoil is not an issue, and if she shoots till empty it can be used as an effective bludgoen.

She is not a fan of semi autos or rifles, but she does like to shoot my 20 ga sxs. It has become her home defense gun.
