Come on to your private property and open up the hood and start rummaging around your vehicle!
I finally had enough today. I have been in a class all week and today my son calls me to let me know that some guys are looking at the car and have already lifted the hood and took the oil dipstick out. WTF! [Rant1]
I told him to tell them to get off the property and not to touch the car unless I am around. I come home and find the dipstick bent because the a$$hat bent it when he forced it in and hurriedly slammed the hood.
I had enough and called the Sheriff and and waiting on them now. I want to press trespassing charges against them. This is the fourth time I have had something like this happen and I am sick of it. [Rant2] I am going to need to park it in the garage now and the wife will be pissed.
Am I over reacting?

Is this a vehicle you're selling? How do they know where it is?

It is a 1969 Olds 442 with no for sale signs on it sitting in my driveway.
Usually workers from crews doing some jobs for neighbors.

Ok, that's just weird.
Any way you can lock the hood on the car?
Wait so people just walk up and start dicking around with your car? Holy crap! I would go ape-poopy on them! And I don't even have a nice car!

^Me too. Why can't you just lock the car? They shouldn't be able to get under the hood without opening the hood release, which they wouldn't be able to access.

It is a 69 had and they had hood releases outside of the car (more trusting then). The doors are all locked and that did not stop some ahole from yanking on the doors one day to open it. That guy I almost took a ball bat to. I am just going to pull it in the garage and get it to the point where I will sell it. I don't want to drill holes in the hood and put hood locks on it as that will decrease the value.
They car only has ~85K original miles and is bone stock.

I would have calmly walked out holding one of my guns asking what they thought they were doing on my property.

Cable lock car cover?

Like others have said, car cover ?
Opening the hood on a car "not for sale" would seem like intent to steal to me.
No matter how you look at it, not right in any book.

That car is worth money- it shouldn't be kept on the driveway in the 1st place. Put it in the garage or sell it!!!!

If not that than the guy could be a little off in the head. Crazy people do crazy stuff ... hence the label "crazy". [Tooth]

Just get a cable gun lock and pass the cable through the loop on the hood for the latch. If that is too short get a short cable bike lock. Pass the other end through an available opening on the radiator support.
Of course the "click clack" of a 590 chambering a round would be more satisfying.

No. The whole thing sounds pretty bizarre to me. Happening once? Okay, some weirdo from planet Xenon was just dumped off in your neighborhood and he's trying to understand our technology.
A second time? Friggin' strange, man.

do you know the guy? or who he is?
get a photo of him.
this sounds like something you'll have to handle yourself.
the police will just say "what do you want us to do, charge him with improper bending of a dipstick?"
when it comes to property, even if a crime has been committed, unless they see it happen you're SOL. if it was a 12 year old girl instead of a car, then the police would be much more inclined to do their jobs.
and if you want to whine about "anti-cop", go lock yourself in a woodshed and whine away.
I'm in a bad mood.

Been there. Even had someone try and open my garage door in the middle of the day. Before I took the GTO apart (again) I came out once to find a young man sitting inside of it.
He was furiously trying to move the shifter but it was going nowhere since being a 72 it has the reverse lock still hooked up. I asked him where he planned on going. I sure like my new car came the reply.
Now do understand that I know who he is and he is autistic and lives about 6 houses down the street. I got him out of the car and had a talk with his parents. [Coffee]
Cover with a car lock. Park front end facing to the street and always try and have a car parked between it and the street. Even though the TA is in the garage the truck is always parked right behind it in the driveway.

I don't feel the need to make bad comments about Police officers. I really like the Douglas County Sheriff's and have had nothing but good interactions with them. [Coffee]

Inside hood releases on GM cars did not start until 73 and then some models did not get them until 78. From 68-72 there was a dealer installed inside hood release option. There were not very popular because they tended to fail at the worst time. My 72 and 76 are both outside releases. And even though the GTO is half torn apart people try and get into it all the time. I have a broken door handle to prove it.

Thanks for the offer. It is going in the garage tonight.
I had a '70 Cutlass and seem to remember I had a piece of chain and a padlock rigged up under there somehow to keep everything locked up. Just like BPTactical suggested.

Am I over reacting? Nice car I love the old 442's especially the 1968 and 1969. I have a 1979 I show and race. I am currently turning her into the Hurst/442 with a modern custom twist. I would snap if I caught someone messing around with my baby.

Didn't see what year it was.
I've had it happen too... I've come out of a restaurant to find someone sitting in the drivers seat (shifting gears) and another time 2 guys with the hood open.
When I asked what the "Eff" they were doing they told me they wanted to see if it was an original 427.
I have a scratch on the top of one of my fenders where I assume someone was sitting on my car

I had some Frickin Jack Wagon lift the hood on my Hum-V 6 wheel drive proto type when I had it at work, I came out and asked him WTFO?? He and his friends put the hood down and it didn't seat right and Fukked up the hood. Lucky they were renting one of my garages. So calmly ask the guy if he had $200 on him? He said ya why. Come look at this, I said. I was kind and asked him very nicely to give me the $200 he had to cover that or I was going to kick his A$$ out of my garage and take his tools. He gave me the money. Great analogy, but opening the hood on a stranger's classic car in a restaurant parking lot is absolutely insane. To DSB, I meant lucky he had the dough and you had some power over him!!

I am just befuddled why people think they can do that. When I was a teenager I had someone open the hood on my 70 Chevelle to see if it was a SS. I had no SS markings anywhere on the car.
I am waiting on the neighbor to get home so I can ask for contact info on the guys doing work on their house in case something else happens (being cautious).
My wife is out of town until tomorrow and has called me twice to wait for her to get home to talk to the neighbors. I am not as nice as her.
I had a almost perfect 79 T/A with a built 455 olds shaker hood the whole 9 yards. It was a beautiful car and at the time I lived in an apartment with only a carport to park in. I came out one day and seen this girl standing on my hood, my first instinct was to start yelling and calling her a retard and asking why she filt the need to stand on my hood and to get the heck off my car. At that time my language was a bit colorful. Man was I pissed off.
Never had problem with folks messin with vehicles, but have problems all the time with people trespassing. They move out of the "big city" and suddenly think that all property surrounding theirs has now become their's to use. Horseback riding, four wheelers etc etc. Now if I pulled onto their lawn they would be pissed but when they ride their horses & ATV's through my fields...I'm the ******* when I give em the boot.

I can't stand people sitting on my motorcycle. Since I work in the great city of Denver and I work at a warehouse, I have to park my bike out side basically in an alley. Every once-in-a-while, when I go out for a break, I see some homeless dude or some kids touching it.
