View Full Version : Finally did it

Yesterday's results kinda lit a fire under me, so I finally got off my ass and plunked down the cash to finish my AR. RRA midlength CAR-A4 upper, $434 shipped from Pete at LegalTransfers (www.ar15sales.com), should be here in a few days.  Eagle Firearms can eat a dick as far as I'm concerned. I've made the effort to patronize the local guy, but if he can't return an email in three days then he can just go ahead and go out of business for all I care. Five thumbs down to Eagle.

Now, I'm gonna need mags and ammo. Where are some good deals to be had?

Oh, and I'm also gonna finally get my rear in gear and take the class and get my CCW paperwork in motion before the Dems take office, so I shall be asking questions about that soon. [usa]

I was at Jensen's today and they have a bunch of used Colt (not really, but the same MFGR) 30 rounders for $11.99.

I second your opinion on Eagle Firearms. I can't believe he stays in business....he must live off his internet sales. It has been impossible for me to get ahold of anyone there. He could have sold an EOTech if he answered my call....plus I need some smith work done. I have his number on speed dial and every now and then for grins I wll dial it. If they aren't taking calls for a week or two (which seems to happen quite frequently) their phone hours now are something like 1pm to 3pm tues thru thurs...even then no one has EVER answered.

Apparently (his words not mine), he's too anal about how he wants things done to hire someone. Just one person would double his sales I bet. He's got a store for some silly reason. You'd think if you pay the damn rent on it you'd want it open..

Ahh well... Good deal Ash.. I'm going to snag my XD before the bastards take over.

You have to have a store front with posted hours in order to get an FFL now.

KarlPMann
11-09-2006, 14:44
Not really, you can still get a manufacturer's license out of your home and for that you have to have the basic FFL like all licensees. But not many know that and BATFE locals wont tell you that. Getting the manufacturers license out of your home is WAY cheaper than getting a storefront too. Karl.

just ordered a ton of mags from them, M14 mags too, $24

Either way, I'm done with him. Weird, too, because on all the national message boards people rave about the service, response time, etc., but I have not seen it even once. Screw him.

Thanks for the cproducts link! Are the $10 30-rd mags any good? Gen II Magpul grey followers, either stainless or chrome silicon springs (what's the practical difference here?), and black Mar-Lube for $0.75 more for a grand total of $10.70/mag.

i have their mar lube black standard mags with green followers, I got them when they had them for 9.99 and are fine. I have a problem with them binding when they get dirty, but as long as they stay clean they are fine.

Asha'man
11-10-2006, 00:12
Excellent. I may have to spring for some of those then.

Next: Ammo.

Oh....I'm gonna need a rear sight too. Anyone here have a BUIS or flat-top A2 handle they'd like to get rid of?

I just bought a 10-pack of 30-round D&H Teflon coated mags for $105 shipped from Bravo Company. The D&H mags are made on the old Labelle tooling and I've yet to ever have a problem with one.

I have also bought D&H mags from 44mag in the past.

I bought a number of things from Eagle when the store front was open. I haven't bought anything else because I'm not going to pay taxes and shipping...and just about everything is out of stock.

yea, since I am working again after xmas i will probably order a shitload of mags

Asha'man
11-12-2006, 16:08
So where would be a good place in town to buy a couple of mags? I think I'll hold off on the big mag order until the Arfcom group buy, but I'll need a couple to get by until then. Who's got the best prices around?

There's a gunshow at the HolidayInn (I-70/Chambers) this coming weekend. You'll be able to find plenty o'mags for low prices. Just don't buy from the guy with the pony tail hair that thinks the mag ban is still on and sells his wares for 5x going rates. And avoid the guys with the surplus tables taking two rows...also way way too high. The shops will usually double or triple the price for decent mags. The last 30rd USGI mags I bought were for $7.00 in near new condition. HK mags can be had for $35-40. ..hey..if you know any Sisters that need a Warder...

Asha'man
11-12-2006, 16:47
That might be worth a shot. I haven't been to a gun show since I was probably 13, lol. I figure the Arfcom group buy will probably be $9-$10 per mag, so I won't pay more than that.

Would still like to get a mag or two for the shoot next weekend (assuming my upper gets here in time and I can beg/borrow/buy/steal a rear sight).

I'd go for a Green were I you. Battle Ajah. [postal]

I just ordered some 30 rounders w/ magpul anti-tilt followers/chrome silicon springs/mar-lube from C-Products as well... About $12 each shipped. Have heard nothing but good feedback about their mags.

Upper came today!!!!! I am now officially part of the EBR Revolution. [postal] [usa] Everything seems to work, but I'd like to have one of you guys go over it on Saturday before I shoot it.

I may have to ask someone if I can borrow a magazine for the day as well.

Methinks we've read some of the same books. [wink]

Think we dropped that series around book 7, keep meaning to catch up.

Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series. Epic high fantasy, 11 books right now and supposed to go to 12. 600-1000 pages each, so don't get started unless you have some time. ;)

Haven't been home long enough to take decent pics yet, but they'll come.

dangit..better quit reading work related stuff and find the latest book to catch up. I started reading it in Gibraltar (w/the Navy) a few years back.

Good to hear your upper came in Asha'man. What kind is it? I'm on hold for a Noveske barrel myself then I'll do an upper build. Did you find any mags? Let me know..I've got plenty here and I'm sure to get more at the show.

Asha'man
11-14-2006, 21:41
Rock River mid-length CAR-A4. I don't like the M4 barrel profile and I wanted the versatility of a flattop. Plus, I've heard good things about the mid-length gas system and I like the look of it. Technically the rifle was a build, but it's all RRA parts so it's basically a factory rifle.

Asha'man

Thanks Greg. I'm not sure I'll have enough ammo to warrant more than one or two mags, but as long as they're available if I need 'em....;)

You're welcome. If you've only got a couple of mags worth of ammo, I'll throw in a couple of mags worth of surplus M855 to run through your new shooter.

Maybe you could do me a favor? I'm looking into the possibility of picking up a Glock 19 in the future to add to my 36. Could you bring yours so I can check out the feel of the grip?

Thanks!

Asha'man

It'll be there. I doubt I'll even be shooting it much, as most of my attention will be directed toward the AR, I'm bringing at least two friends so they'll be shooting my things, and you're the second person to ask to shoot the G19. It's the community 9mm this week.

Yay, picked up about 400 rds of .223, 500 rds of .22, and will probably get some 9mm in the morning. I won't be down till noonish at the earliest, but I hope to see you all there!
