View Full Version : 550 sling?

I remember seeing a tutorial of how to make a sling out of paracord, and now that I'm sitting here with the paracord I can't quite remember how and I can't find the damn tutorial.
Its not the woven one that's in most of the youtube vids... it involves making a few loops then drawing another loop through them, and repeating.
Anybody know what I'm talking about or have any links?

That's the woven one that seems to be in all of the videos I'm finding.
The one I'm thinking of, you wrap it 3 times (I think), then after the 3rd one you make a loop that you pull through the coil, then repeat. I'm pretty sure I got that part right, but I can't remember how you build off of it with the next 3 coils.

Is a complex weave what you should be attempting on 3 days without sleep?

I've got some paracord, I should totally make one of these.

Haha yikes. That was a long time ago. I guess I'm not going to let you off the hook for that mishap in the other thread then. ;)

After some trial and error, I figured it out.
4 wraps in-between the previous 4 and underneath the cord for the loop inside, and on the 4th you bring it through the loop in the previous wrap.

Get a pen or something.
Make 4 loose-ish wraps around the pen-or-something.
With the end of the last wrap, make a loop and then draw it through the 4 wraps as seen in the pic.
With the end of the loop on the side you drew the loop through make 4 more wraps, each wrap going in between two of the previous ones, and around the loop in the middle. On the last of the 4 wraps, bring it through the loop at the end. Then repeat the process, tightening down the previous set as you go.

So make the 4 wraps at the top in the pic. With the end, make the loop and draw it through the middle. With the top piece of cord on the right in the pic, make 4 more wraps around the loop between the 4 pieces of cord.
Make sense?

Takes a while though... I've only gotten this far since the last pic...

Just a thought. If you're planning on using this creation, maybe you should continue on a swivel. Maybe start another one on a swivel? I'm just trying to help.

I'll probably just use more paracord for the attachment points.

You mean just tie a clove hitch to the rifle with a single strand of cord as the sling?
I've done that, its uncomfortable and there isn't much paracord there. The point of this is because I need a sling and I like having lots of 550 on me.

That's a slatts rescue belt. YouTube user TIAT has a good video on it.

Thanks, will do. I've had to deconstruct it a little here and there to fix stuff that didn't look right, it'll be nice to have a video to go off of.

It's called the slatts rescue belt. It is a pretty simple weave and is simple to unravel if you need to do so. The tricky part is ending it. look up slatts rescue belt tutorials.

I get it now. Pretty cool. This should be moved to the survival section.

Well I had to start over cause I did it wrong, but I got it.
Took me a couple hours and the 50' length of cord turned into about 36" (unstretched) with a 4 loop pattern. Its pretty elastic and does stretch out under load. Its a bit smaller than I'd hoped but it fits well slung over one shoulder, and it fits when slung across my chest with a t-shirt but I think it's a bit too small to work with with my cold weather gear on.
Threw it on the M38. Gonna get some 100' lengths and use maybe 65' for the next couple... gonna put one on each of my rifles.
