About 30 minutes ago a large cup of coffee got dumped on my laptop.
I drained it,took a hair dryer to it,turned it upside down to dry. Any hope for it? or should I start playing TAPS.[Rant1]

I've had reasonably good luck saving cell phones that got soaked by flushing them with alcohol or electrical contact cleaner immediately to help remove the water, but I dunno how that might work with something more complex.

Tear it down and clean it with di water, then dry completely.

It's a 50/50 if you are fast and it did not short.

I dumped multiple beers on my last laptop. As long as you pulled the battery quick enough and allow it to dry completely, you should be fine.

I spilled a mtn dew on one that was turned off. I just shook it out and let it sit for a few hours and it worked fine.

I "dropped" a work cell phone in the toilet while it was on (on a call). It was DOA [Beer]

EDIT: actually a better one, my mom dropped her cell phone in the toilet (a razor I think) and flushed it before she realized it (she was going through chemo at the time) it got stuck in the pipe [ROFL1] My step dad removed the toilet and fished it out. The only thing that didnt work after drying it out was the camera.

If it was on and the screen went blank its probably fried.

If you want to try and clean it tear it all the way down and clean with alcohol (rubbing 90% if you can find it or everclear.) Blow it off and toss in a ziplock with a bunch of rice or those silicone dry packs.

If it does still somehow work and you don't clean it you'll end up with a bunch of nasty looking white corrosion on all the contact points with in 2-3 days and then it's defiantly dead and not much you can do.

Even then it really depends on if the liquid made it past the keyboard. Sometimes it doesn't and doesn't hurt anything you just end up with a key or two that wont work right after a while.

I jumped into a pool with my cell phone. Dried it in a bag of rice in direct sunlight and it worked perfectly.

Not local to you, but the owner of Action computers, in Arvada is on here, named Mark. Im having them deal with a blue screen of death laptop right now. Id definately give them a call again, just ask for Mark!

I'd bet its toast, but you can always pay someone a bit to try to recover something...

I dropped an alphanumeric pager (remember those?) in a toilet once. I fished it out, took out the battery, dismantled the case, and let it dry for 2-3 days. It was fine afterward.

I'm not really sure if you would be able to find a container large enough, but when cell phones get wet, a good trick is to put it in a ziploc with some rice.

The rice soaks up the moisture, and theoretically allows the phone to work again.

I'd be sure and get the hard drive out of the laptop before you continue to try any further recovery processes. It's mostly sealed and should be recoverable without much work - if it's not soaked more by some recovery process.
