Sweet pistol. Next to no external wear. It has been fired as wear is present on the barrel hood. Minimal other interior wear. Took it down, replaced the recoil spring, firing pin spring. Removed the factory 2-piece full-length guide rod assembly, put in a new GI-style set, including a dimpled recoil spring plug (hint-hint Alxone!). Replaced the factory slide release and mag release with parts from 10-8 Performance. Have a couple of other things to do, including replacing the factory mainspring housing with an arched one, as that is my preference. Might head over to Firing Line Sun morning to put a few rounds thru it. I'm going to make it into the perfect TRP (for me).

Thanks Ray! I've also put new grips on it, VZ Gator black canvas. It needed very little cleaning, unlike most guns I buy. Anytime you wanna go pistol shootin' local- let me know. I'll meet you at FL.

Congrats. Sweet pistol!

I appreciate it but I hate indoor ranges. Especially FL. Last time I was there the ventilation was so horrible I nearly choked to death. Even made my eyes burn. I think I took several years off my life. I prefer to do my practicing in the great outdoors. [Awesom]

Congrats.
As much as I disliked the lock on the MSH, the full length guide rod and the MIM parts in general, I've left my TRP alone and it runs great. I'm sure I'm over 10k rounds down range. So far, so good.

A fresh pic, showing some subtle changes. I generally agree that many of these pistols can be left alone and will perform superbly. However, as an admitted Brownell's addict and OCD 1911 parts switcher, I am helpless in the face of my own issues. In this pic you see the "new" grips, that came out of my 1911 parts box. Very aggressive feel. They match the feel of the frontstrap pretty well. The grip screws- 10-8 Performance, they have a concave-cut slot, made so that you can use the rim of a case to unscrew them to remove the grips. If the SHTF, how many of us would make sure that we had the right hex-head allen key for the grip screws? If one broke somehow in the field or you have to remove the grips, you're "screwed". If you're carrying the gun, you'll most always have a cartridge, thus the tool to remove the grips. You can see the forward slant on the mag release, also 10-8 Performance. I'm lefty, so use my left index finger to drop the mag and/or release the slide. The slant on the mag release fits the finger perfecty, and is a machined part, as is the slide release. Very slightly oversized for better slide lock-up, and with a larger "shelf" for my index finger. If you can't figure it out, I think 10-Performance parts are the bomb.
Also- of course, CMC Black 8-rnd Power mags.

Considering you can remove every part on the gun without needing to take the grips off, I think I'm going to name your prognosis Acute Brownells-fueled SHTF-itis. [Coffee]

But- but- what if the grips break? What if after the Apocolypse, you wander into some now-dead custom gripmaker's workshop and find the perfect set of elephant G10 ivory exhibition stag mastodon grips? Maybe the last guy there took all of the screwdrivers?
