View Full Version : Compuer Question
Been having a problem with my computer crashing. Randomly the screen will go dead and computer will shut down. Sometimes it will lock up first before the computer shuts down. When I reboot the date and time will be 11:02 am Tuesday, Jan 01, 2008. That date could be when it was made. I bought the computer in June 2008. Can anyone give me a clue what could be wrong? I know that's not much info. 800 meg hard drive is about full.

I don't think it is infected. I use it mainly for a work computer and surf the web with it. I have quite a few big programs on it that take up a lot of space. I didn't have any problems until I installed several programs about 6 months ago. I've had problems with the video card getting hot and locking up the computer but when it does that it gives me the blue screen and says something about saving the settings before it turns off. Now it's just locking up and shutting off. The monitor loses power but the cooling fans and I/O light is still lit. After about 5 mins it shuts down. Oh well, I should just make sure I have everything I need backed up and prepare to buy another computer.

How often do you run Disk cleanup and Defrag??
Running for a few minutes, then crashing may be an overheating problem. I'd download speedfan and watch processor and video card temps.

That's what I was thinking as well.
Can you verify that your fan is actually running?
I third the overheating suggestion.
Crack the case open and blow out all the dust with some canned air (an air compressor could damage the computer)

Deny, deny, deny

Could be overheating. I've had problems in the past with the graphic card overheating. The fans on the cpu heatsink, gpu heatsink, and power supply are all blowing. I took the cover off the side to help with getting too hot.
