Mak the Knife

I've always been fond of Czech firearms so it was great when I found an M70B1 at a smokin price last week. The only problem is that I'm not terribly familiar with these AK variants. Does anyone have any thoughts on this model? Any recommendations for rails? The gas tube is longer than most AK's that I've handled and I'm really only interested in an rail for a red dot or something similar. I won't rule out a 4 sided rail, just don't need the other 3 sides per say.

Thanks!

The m70 is a yugo AK not a Czech. Its really considered the cadillac of AKs with its thicker reciever. The B1s are the fixed stock version which are more rare. As far as rails, you can try ultimak. They make good stuff

maybe the big heavy 1979 caddy that grandpa used to drive [ROFL1]

no really yugo ak's are great, i have one myself, but they are heavier than their euro pattern brothers. that also translates to a more robust rifle.

if you want a czech ak pattern rifle the you wont find one, they never fielded an ak variant though i've heard great things about the vz58. it's a milled receiver rifle in 7.62x39 and is lighter than a stamped akm

When I pared down my AK collection I kept the one that shot the best, was the most accurate and just felt right.
My Zastava M70B1.
I had preban FEG and Arsenal rifles not to mention a MAK90, a MAADI and a slew of other varieties.
Out of 14 only one made the cut.
The Yugoslavian variants are the only AK that is designed from the ground up for grenade launching. You get the heavier receiver, heavier barrel, gas block and FSB not to mention the dust cover catch that won't spring loose under firing.
Good stuff.

I used a UTG aluminum quad-rail and haven't had any issues with it yet. I did have to grind the front for the under folder (it went on an M70AB2).

Second the Yugo being my favorite AK so far, but the non-chrome lined barrel and the nasty Yugo ammo kinda made her ugly on the inside LOL.
