I made a hobo stove for camping, but for the price, this is hard to beat. Runs on wood so you'll never be without fuel. I ordered one and am very pleased with the stainless steel material and build quality. These are a great preparedness item to have on hand.

I thought about going the wood burning route but decided to build a pressurized soda can stove instead. The stove itself weighs a little over an ounce and the fuel is another 4oz or so depending on how much you decide to bring. It's ultralight and will boil 16oz of water in roughly 8 minutes.

When I was looking at these kinds of stoves before the one that I really like was the emberlit (http://www.emberlit.com)one. I like how it folds flat and you can keep feeding it wood through the bottom. He is making a titanium one that I am not sure is worth it or not.

Found this heavyweight on Sportsman Guide. Coming in at 2 pound, wouldn't be for a backpack; but maybe a car.

Why wouldn't you just cook on the campfire?

Why wouldn't you just cook on the campfire?

Efficiency, wind resistant and circumvents burn bans.

And sometimes you don't want to be found.

It DOES circumvent burn bans? When Jeffco had a burn ban, we got in trouble for having a fire in a grill at a local park.

Bumping this thread. I interacted with Mikhail of Emberlit stove - he seems to be a stand up guy. I have seen his stove in action and finally got a chance to purchase one.

Due to metal cost, some of his prices are going up soon. He made a special link to maintain the current price for his facebook fans. http://www.emberlit.com/lastchancebuy.php

Aw thanks guys..

I noticed one of the questions bout hobo stove in general was "why not cook on a fire?" That is a great question. I myself often just kick over a rock and start a small fire in there to cook. Hobo stoves excel at efficiency. They use very little fuel and produce a whole lot of heat just where you need it. Hobostoves, or braziers go all the way back to the pyramids. They provide an efficient, contained, and directed source of heat using biomas fuels.

Nwmanitou, your stove fits perfectly in my binoculars case. I enjoy the stove.

Anyone ever made a beer can stove? I made one last year and used "heet" as fuel. Worked great!

This is basically the one I made. It's a little more complicated to make, but it is super easy to use! I can make another one and post video if anyone is interested. ETA: The only tools I used were a pair of scissors and a thumbtack.

Beer can stoves are awesome. I was surprised by just how well they worked. Thanks for the vid.
My latest alky stove is made from a venom can. I found a vid on youtube that shows how to make a die then use a car jack to press the can into a single piece double wall. I'll have to find it again.

Just ordered one of the Emberlits -- I have a couple others in stamped steel that are are similar design (made here in Colorado) but I like what I see in his design -- so much so that I was just thinking I should have added one or two more to my order!

I can't believe that I've started my own business, a business that is actually paying the bills and building savings. All thanks to people like you. Thank you so very much! It is hard to fully express my gratitude.
