View Full Version : Question about 10mm magazines for a 1911

Out of curiousity, I sat a 10mm mag for 1911s next to the standard 45ACP mags for 1911s
and I was surpised at how close the 2 "different" mags are to being almost identical.
I then loaded a 10 round Chip McCormick with 10mm rounds and attempted to chamber a 10mm round
and I was successful with cycling by hand all 10 rounds through the CM mag.
It even locks the slide back at the last round to be extracted.

Has anyone ever decided to rely on this to save some cash?

For right now, until I can get a chance to shoot the 10mm, I will use the standard 10mm mags
for both the backup mag and the mag loaded in the pistol.

Apreciate any logical response wether for or against this. Also any funfilled
general discussion comments that only this wonderful site can come up with.[ROFL1]

The 10mm mags have a ridge on both sides to make up for the narrower round. This keeps the round traveling in a linear fashion instead of cocking off to the side.
If you have feed issues I would not be surprised, I can make a comment on real world as I have not tried it.

Back in 86/87 when I got my first Delta Elite, I had to run some .45 mags as the 10mm ones were almost impossible to find.

They worked OK, but I would not use them for anything but range use.

This what I was hoping NOT to hear.

I wonder if i were to "fold" down the lips to create more contact with the round to resemble the 10mm mags.

Nice to see ya on here Dave!!!!!!!

I just tried a 45 acp Chip McCormick and a Wilson combat magazine in in my Colt Delta and they hand cycled fine, and you can fit 9 rounds in a 8 round mag. The WC worked the best.

Don't rely on a mag not made for the cartridge or the gun. You're just looking for trouble one way or the other.

Agreed.
