View Full Version : Escaped cat :(
So at some point today, while having the alarm system installed Pita escaped. She isn't a door darter, It actually took about 5 mins with the door open to get her to come outside.. then she followed me around every step I took.
At some point today.. I was painting the bedroom, the installer was in and out a couple times but I never saw the door open.. Now she's gone.
I've spent the last 6 hours looking for her. I've been all over the neighborhood and in every yard I could enter.. I've found 3 gray cats, a calico, and another but can't find mine. I got really excited when I saw some eyes reflecting under a van down the road.. got closer and it was and it was the same color.. but she didn't make a noise.. and the face was different..
This ****ing sucks. It's going to snow on weds. She's never been an outdoor cat.. she still has her claws.. but I'm going insane. [Bang][Bang]
She's micro-chipped but I can't find the papers since I moved.. [Bang]

Where did you get her chipped ?
When my last cat got hit by a car :-( they called my ex wife when they scanned the chip.
the chip is registered to the Vet .. the vet hopefully has current contact info for you .
( At least this is how I THINK it works .... )
hopefully Pita will show up late tonight making noise to be let back in .
Their survival instincts are amazing, but sooner or later she'll be wanting to come home. Might wanna make some flyers though, I just hooked one up with its owner a few weeks ago because I came across a flyer and recognized it as the new cat pestering my dog in the front yard.
Aren't the chips only effective if the cat is recovered?

Just a consideration, did you check all the drawers in the bedrooms, etc? We have one cat, that curled up in the sock drawer one day. 36hrs later, we finally found her, alive, and well thank god.

chips are reg to the person who owns it, some times vets will throw there info there as well...good luck monky, a completely different story by my mom locked one of her cat in the truck of her old car for a few days...she couldnt find him and got worried finally heard the cat getting in the car, he was fine just a little hungry
Yeah just moved a month ago.. the furthest she ever ventured out before was the back porch.. 2nd story.. and only looked over the edge.
I've checked the drawers.. all the cabinets.. on top of everything, under everything.. believe me if she were in here I would know.. she's a
'bit' vocal.. especially if I shake her food bowl...
She was a rescue kitty from DDFL, so she was chipped there. My old info is there, the phone #'s are still current, I just can't find the papers w/ the chip info. DDFL will still have it.
I don't have any pictures of her beyond from a distance of her doing dumb stuff.. no distinguishing marks, beyond her strange noises.
I'm just worried as all hell.. after a few minutes outside w/ me she'd be pawing at the door.
I miss her annoying wake me up in the morning cause she was hungry ass..
How far did you move? I know of two cats that went back to their previous homes after a move.
Good luck.

About 14 miles away?
I could only HOPE that would happen as my old neighbors miss me and loved my noisy cat that is 'louder than my gf'

One of our twins got locked in a car for 3 weeks. She is fine now - but never caught up to the her sister size.
good luck finding her. also call the pound tomorrow. maybe somebody picked her up or animal control did. they would have a scanner as well and would call the contact info you had when you had the cat registered with the microchip. you have to pay yearly to "update" that info, but it is always saved with the original info.
hope she comes back soon, i know the sick feeling you get when a pet goies missing....not fun

Good luck...hope you find her.
You're cat is louder than your gf?... you're doing it wrong... heheheheh.
Anyways, I also hope you find her. Check the place where you got her chipped and update your info. Check the local animal rescues/pound. Make flyers, put food out, etc. All the things that have been listed. Usually cats are pretty good at coming home. Hope it turns out well.
I've been all over the neighborhood and in every yard I could enter...
Check the window wells. Many cats that wander outside for the first time end up in one of these. They must see the window and think they can get back in the house that way.
Make sure to also knock on every neighbor's door and ask them if they have seen your cat. It is very possible that someone may have already found it and is waiting for you to come claim it.
Best wishes!

She certainly would be easier to find that way.
Went to check this morning and nothing, been on the phone with ddfl, home again, and the local places. It was so weird this morning without her.
The louder than my gf isn't cause im doing it wrong. You could her the cat through the front door, down the stairs standing 50' away... she is noisy :)
I hope you find her. Good luck... My cats likes to hang out on the back porch when I grill. One time I didn't realized one of them got out and she spent almost two day in the backyard. I was lucky she didn't go far.
as has been said, check the old place.
years back a roommate tried to give his girlfriend one of his cats. it bolted from her place and disappeared, only to show up back at his place two weeks later. thin, dirty, but alive and with a much better attitude.
Kind of hard to find her with kids everywhere making noise, as I'm sure she's scared ****less.. But I'm still looking.
Put the candy bowl on the porch.. and now I don't look weird shining a flashlight at peoples houses.
Although, no one said a word last night.. Not sure if they're used to surefires blinding them in the middle of the night or what..

That's what I'm afraid of.. She's only been in the yard twice. Not enough to get a feel for it... I've had the windows open a lot.. but.. I'm sure I've lost her. Unless i get lucky and someone picks her up.. cause she is friendly..
All vets and shelters, and ddfl, and humane society, and anyone I could think of has been notified..

Thanks, I've talked to my neighbors and anyone walking their dog, searched up and down from broadway to the park off bellview..
The only problem with flyers is I have no good pictures of just her when she's not hiding or doing something dumb.. nothing that would work good for a flyer except for as a little kitty.
I think i'm at the point of hoping someone took her in, and will care for her. She is very friendly, but being outside I'm afraid she won't be.
Searched a bit last night but with all the kids there was not a cat to be found. Nothing this morning and I put her food dish out. It wasn't touched.
I'm still holding on to hope, but I'm afraid I may be at the mercy of a good person. The vets/shelters/ddfl/humane society have all been notified, as well as animal control.
This weather change has me freaked out.. [Bang]
I'm not a cat person, but I DO know loving, loyal, and just wonderful additions to families pets can be. We are pulling for you and hope kitty comes home!!

Good to hear! My roommate accidentally let my cat out. She was gone for 5 days. I looked for her everywhere around the neighborhood. She was in the same boat as yours, never been further than 5 feet from the back door. She was actually afraid to step on grass the first time she was outside.
I felt like crap those 5 days. Until one day I looked out the window and she was in the back yard. Was pretty much skin and bones. We have foxes in our neighborhood and my cat is a runt so at that point I had kind of lost hope.

So glad to have her back.. she ATE all her food right away.. and now I'm sure she has an upset tummy as she's just moping about. Taking her to the vet in the morning. She's due for shots soon.

Dude, I've been watching this saga since you first posted and I've been silently feeling your pain.
I have a male cat that is my "little buddy" and I would be lost without him. When I can't find him I freak out because he tries to sneak out on us.
In the warmer weather I'll take him out in the backyard with me and let him play while I keep a CLOSE eye on him. I'll also let him out front - in thegarage and front yard and do the same with him. This way, if he should slip awy, he'll be familiar with his home to (hopefully) find it again if nothing prevents him from coming home.
I'm thrilled you found your cat and the "annoying" little one is home safe and sound.
Now, start taking lots of various pics (especially anthing that shows special marks/patterns) of your kitty to use for posters if he gets out again. While cats really find them annoying, you might even want to consider a collar with a tag. We had to do this for one of our cats that adopted us (yeah, you read it right) but was almost completely an outdoor cat until she got stolen by a neighbor. She did everything she could to get outside after that but we also did everything we could to keep her inside. The collar/tag was an added security measure.

Congratulations on finding her, and more importantly for not giving up hope! There is absolutely no other feeling than the sigh of relief when you find your loved one after they've been missing for days.
Someone broke into my apartment in Boulder several years ago when I still lived there. My cat got out, couldn't have picked a better time either. It was finals time at CU in December, so naturally it was warm outside. But, as soon as she got out, a big storm rolled in. I spent 14hrs searching for her straight, performing a spiral search pattern, until I was too exhausted from the all-nighter studying and it being like 3am. Reluctantly went to bed, didn't sleep and woke up the next day to find a storm had rolled in that night and it had rained, then snowed on top of the ice. Went out and kept searching, refusing to give up. Found her right outside my apartment, maybe 50' from my door, hiding in a huge juniper bush. She was scared, frozen, wet/icy (it rained/snowed that night so she actually had bits of ice in her fur). Brought her inside, made a kitty burrito with a towel and she was purring so loudly. There was no greater feeling than to have held her for so long after such a daring venture outside. She no longer has a desire to go outside though.

Thought she was. Mine are Balinese. I had a Blue point mix Ragdoll and yours is very pretty. I will say that the feet say Ragdoll but the face..... You may have a mix that is more Siamese than Ragdoll. Ragdolls like to be in charge but are pussies. A Balinese/Siamese has no issue going after someone. The old style used to be very common. They now command big$$ and are kinda rare.
Old style Balinese have a couple of traits that are interesting to say the least. They are not afraid. You may whack one to show you are boss but they will get back at you. Affection. They love it but on there terms. Not paying attention? They have no problem giving you a little "nip" to let you know that "hey!, your hand is here, pet me." That can be a big issue with some owners.
They (unlike ragdolls) have no issue with dogs. Ragdolls always try and establish fear in dogs that does not always work out. As long as the dog is cool every Balinese I have owned gets along with them to the point of sleeping with them.
So now you have a few insights. Questions?

She's actually not eating as much as she did before. She's kept on a pretty lean diet.. she's get 1/2 cup total all day. I was feeding her per the bag instructions and she was getting FAT.. so after talking to my vet.. she gets 1/2 cup. She leaves a little occasionally but it's just about perfect for her.
