At the tomb of the unknown soldier, a persons character and understanding of the sacrifice of this nation's Military becomes evident.
We need to bring back mandatory service.
It would give allot of people a long overdue wake-up
the occupy protesters want student loan forgiveness? 6 years in the military sounds like a fair trade to me...

The only time I have been there was when I earned a trip to Presidential Classroom my Senior year at Missouri Military Academy. I was too awestruck to do much of anything but pay my respects. I was also in uniform. There were the usual gaggle of asshats there. It really is funny how quickly the disrespectful crowd shuts their mouths when the Guard addresses them.

No, remember they are "occupiers" we'll leave them there after the real soldiers are done.

well I figure they know how to cook, they are willing to sleep in tents...
at a minimum they would make fodder.

Been there once.. it was pouring down rain and they didn't miss a step. I did though as the erflu took hold of me when leaving the cemetary.. spent the next two days missing everything I wanted to see in the area.. miserable trip.. but I got to see the Tomb and the Eternal flame.. so it wasn't all a waste.

I have stood many times on the step for many ceremonies while I was assigned to that unit. Everything is done in all seriousness.
I used to go to the Tomb of the Unknowns or TUS once a week on my own and would always be my place for second or third dates.
THe best is getting to go into the ready area. There is a lot of cool stuff in there.
If you are interested in the Tomb or Arlington Cemetery check out "On Hallowed Ground"...Great book.

It truely is a humbling experience. I have been there a couple of times.
One time was Father's Day in 2000 with my Dad. It probably was one
of my best days in life to be at Arlington, Vietnam Memorial, USMC Memorial
and a few other places with my Dad on Father's Day of all days.
when I was a kid we saw the mall and the vietnam memorial, but didn't make it out to arlington. on my list to go back.
if I had the dough I'd go on a world tour. okinawa, iwo, midway, pearl, arlington, normandy, verdun, somme, bastonge, berchesgarten, auschwitz, dachau, volgograd.
