Dear Brian,

Last month, the Senate Committee responsible for education debated and passed a bipartisan bill designed to fix the flawed federal education law, No Child Left behind (NCLB). This bill builds on many successful Colorado initiatives to provide parents and teachers with useful information about how students are doing, and support teachers and principals. In addition, it will help drive innovation and ensure more equitable distribution of resources.
In a Washington where getting anything done is rare, passing a bipartisan bill in committee is a tremendous accomplishment. This bill can continue to serve as a building block as we work to finally roll back No Child Left Behind.

But the next step is bringing the bill to the Senate floor. That is why I need your help.

During the committee process over 4,000 Coloradans signed my petition (http://bennet.enews.senate.gov/mail/util.cfm?mailaction=clickthru&gpiv=2100079585.723793.214&gen=1&mailing_linkid=20852) calling on Congress to fix NCLB. That support carried great weight and more is needed to continue our momentum. Please take a moment to you sign my petition and forward this email to three of your friends to do the same. We have a vital national interest in the education of our kids. The future of this democracy and our ability to compete in the 21st century depends on it. Please join me in making that education the one they deserve, not the one they have.

That's an email from Bennett, direct copy. Not "future of this democracy". I know Obonzo has used democracy in place of Republic. Which in his case, a lot of folks believe to be intentional, as having taking Constitutional Law, he knows there is a significant difference. Am I just getting worked up over nothing, or are the Dems constantly trying to change reality simply by using the wrong terms?

Kind of like Hitler, make up a lie, make it a big one, repeat it over and over, and eventually it will be the truth.

The problem is that most people do not know the difference between a "Democracy" and a "Representative Republic".

And yet they're allowed to vote, even though they don't know jack...

ought to be a test you have to pass to vote... nothing complicated, just enough to weed out the morons or people that don't pay enough attention to know what the hell they're talking about.

There IS a test of basic understanding of American civics. It's the citizenship test all foreigners have to take for naturalization. It's a crying shame most naturalized citizens know more about how the American system is supposed to work than most natural-borns.

I got that email as well, and was pretty disappointed that it did not provide the information for the specific bill, or what was in it. Zero information, just asking to be passed along.

Thank you! I get a bit tired of explaining to people that we are not in fact a democracy and are in fact a republic, and why we are a republic as apposed to a democracy. Democracy in its truest form is mob rule, a republic is in fact set up to protect minorities (not racial) from mob rule, a fact the dems will not acknowledge and why they and ignorant Americans (like there is a difference) insist on referring to the United States as a democracy. I could go on buts its rather late.

Why is it that liberals are usually the first to say "No, no, no, we're a democracy not a republic, you silly republican!" Is it that they're so blind to the truth? I guess that old saying still holds true "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink."

The truth is that we are not a democracy, nor or we a republic any longer. I learned a new word today:

Ineptocracy(in-ept-o-cra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Nice. [Beer] But also [Bang] because it's true.

I'm a big fan of Kleptocracy. I learned it from Jared Diamond; who seems like he might be a pretty big liberal.
