So as I'm sure I'm speaking for everyone here, next Friday is a pretty special day for all of us, regardless of our current or past professions... that's right folks, Nov 11th is Veteran's Day. Forget selfish holiday's like my birthday, Christmas and the like, next to the 4th of July and just before St. Patrick's Day, Veteran's Day is one of the biggest holiday's for me, not because I'm a veteran (some people in my life treat me like everyday is Veteran's Day) but because of those who wore the boots before me. We all know who I'm talking about, the Greatest Generation (the few, proud, and insanely brave guys who are still around that not only gave the Nazi's a black eye, but a sore ass too), the Korean War Vets, the brave ones who went to 'Nam only to be spat on when they came home, and pretty much everyone else who donned a uniform, saluted the Stars and Stripes, and did their part in keeping America free.
This year is really the first year I get to actually go do something special for this day that we pay tribute- last year I had just gotten out but was still recovering from a surgery. I'm wondering what all of you fine folks are planning on doing to honor Veteran's Day this year. I had thought about at one point in the afternoon going over to the VA Cemetery to pay my respects to the vets no longer with us, but other than that I'd really like to do something special this year... and moreso than last year where I spent $60 on a phone call to some friends in Iraq (I'm not talking money but the spirit of things and doing something for my battle buddies still fighting). Ideas? Anyone want to get together and go do something? I'm low on creativity at the moment.
