Ok,first I apologize if this has been posted in this forum previously, but I'm trying to figure out the best caliber for song dogs or any advice,I am going to give yote hunting a try,I have a couple 223's,but was looking at 22-250,243,204,25-06,I know each caliber has pros and cons,I would like to have flexibility as far as range goes, let's say out to 600 yrs and maybe close as 100yds,keeping pelts is not a priority, but maybe I'd like to keep a few,so any thoughts or real world experience would be greatly appreciated, also I do roll my own so ammo cost is not a major concern, thanks

any of those you listed would work.

on top of that have a 12 gauge nearby with 00 buck as they can be sneaky. My buddy has almost been pounced before when a yote snuck in on him in some crappy weather.

If you want to reach out and touch them and don't care about pelts, I can only suggest 50 BMG. [Weight]

22-250 is an excellent choice

Good show on the Outdoor channel called Predator Quest. He carries both a rifle and shotgun with him. I've found it very comfortable watching him in adverse conditions from my couch. [ROFL1]

I've always used my .223 or .204. both work great

I shoot one of my ARs out to 600 all the time. 24" bull barrel and 77gr SMKs over 23.5gr of Varget in well processed cases and Wolf SRPs.

If you're rolling your own and already have the platform...

If you don't care about pelts, and don't mind if I tag along, I'll bring my big stick and we can blow them apart much farther out than 600.

Do you have a place to hunt them? That seems to be the hard part. I think all the calibers you suggest would work, 22-250 or .223 is what I would use.

I use a .270 but I have also heard a 30-30 works well. But you can't go wrong with the .223. Happy hunting

I'm a fan of the 220 swift and 17 fireball

Any 20 caliber bullet with good velocity will floor them. I do like the .50 BMG suggestion...

I use T-shot 3 1/2" 12 gauge for the close shots, good to about 70 yards, and AR 5.56 for everything else of course
