Guys, I bought my first house last Friday. The last two weeks leading up to the purchase I have found myself paying more attention to stainless appliances, granitite counters, and hardwood floors than the world of firearms. When will this go away? Am I doomed to be a slave to the Ikea nesting instinct or is this going to pass?
Give it a couple of Years for the newness to wear off. [roll]
Then You might be alright.
Congrats! And yes, it will pass.
The emphasis is on "might".
just be happy you found a house you like and could afford!
I'm STILL looking for a house.

Congratulations!
And yes, once that final box of Martha Stewart tupperware is unloaded, the warm firearm feelings will return.

I will post some pics when done they are going to do the counter top template next week and it takes about 3 weeks to make it. In the mean time I have all the trim to deal with and the fire place which I have not decided exactley what I am going to do yet.
All I know is I have been with out a kitchen for over 2 months and it sucks cant wait untill its done.

Tim, I am really glad to see I am not alone in this. My next big purchase will be a new fridge. My house was built in 1987 and I think the fridge is original (and the dishwasher and the stove and all the light fixtures). I tried to talk Cassie into black appliances but she has her heart set on stainless.
I am looking forward to seeing your new kitchen, do you have a before picture for us?
I almost wish I had bought a sear before buying this house like I tried to do because now it will be a while and sears will probably be $20K. I have to say the Akins 10/22 seems to be holding me over for now, how did the .22 upper for the 16 do at the shoot?

Ken my .22 upper didn’t run worth a $hit LOL but that is life I will figure it out and get it to run.
My house was built in 1972 so you can guess what I am dealing with I have owned it for 14 years and only paid 69K for it. The problem is I have only painted, done a roof, a drive way and landscaping. On the other hand I have built race cars and bought Harleys and guns. I did replace the furnace hot water heater and installed central air. I also ran 100 amp service to the garage and wired it to hell and back I bet Marlin would be proud. Basically I did all the stuff that a bachelor would do now it's time to make it look nice. It appraised at 280K so I figured why the hell not use some of the equity to make it nice.
My kitchen is where I am starting the whole house is getting remodeled this is just where I decided to start. The only thing in my entire kitchen I saved was the stove and fridge they are both only 3-4 years old everything else went into the dumpster.
I personally bought all Maytag appliances in white I did not take any before pics and for good reason. [roll]
You made a good choice don't knock older houses they build the new ones like crap. You could not give me a new house in trade for mine I have a huge yard and I will make it what I want it to be. At this point you are looking at what you paid for it and how much work it needs to be what you want it to be just imagine like me 14 years from now what it will be worth trust me you did good.
